Young drivers, under age 25, who complete the Steer Clear® Safe Driver Program, may be eligible for an adjustment to the premium on their State Farm® auto insurance. The Steer Clear mobile application tracks a driver's progress through pre-set learning modules of updated content including topics such as Bluetooth, distracted driving (texting/games), and special driving situations. Drivers will no longer need to manually record their trips if the program is conducted through this app. Throughout their trips, drivers will be scored and given feedback on their braking, acceleration, and cornering. Once a driver completes the program, they will receive a program completion certificate that they can text, email, or bring into the agent's office. Badges have been added to Steer Clear to recognize and reward a variety of specific driving accomplishments. The badges will help align users to shared goals of the app, such as scoring a certain percentage on a specific driving behavior, while acting as virtual, motivational status symbols. That’s just not accurate both in reality and in your videos of how close the cars are to each other. The explanations are too clear and easy to understand. -- Rocio Bell, 2024-12-16 ### ****- "Good but sensitive" It’s pretty accurate most of them time but I had a trip where it recorded over 275 events including 75 separate hard braking events just pulling into my drive way. It’s got a weird system for counting events because it could lower your score by a lot if the app reads something wrong. I had a good drive and it had a score of 50 because it counted what should have been one moment of rapid acceleration as 4. Definitely need to work on the sensitivity of the app and how it counts events as separate events. -- kaleb powell, 2024-12-15 ### *---- "Legitimately terrible at its job" It's supposed to give you tips and record driving and scoring based on precision, sounds fine, until you consider that the gps tracking for the driving believes you teleport every roughly 5 seconds. Didn't care as much until my last trip gave me, and i counted, 17 "HARD BRAKING" EVENTS BEFORE LEAVING MY WORK PARKING LOT? And the line it claims I drove looks like a Picasso painting, so yeah, fix the goddamn gps tracking and also understand how G-force works to actually calculate how fast you accelerate and brake. Considering it said hard brake AND rapid acceleration within 100 feet of each other and my acceleration didn't even exceed 5mph/s, it needs a sensitivity tweak, considering my vehicle shouldn't be able to "rapidly accelerate" in the first place knowing that a Honda Accord is probably faster than my project as is. -- HDdaLG, 2024-12-09 ### *---- "Ridiculous" I already passed my drivers test. God forbid you live in an area where the roads aren’t perfect and you have to make a yielding or sharp turn. It does not take into account you trying to slow down to make a safe turn, only the angle. I got a better score (by double) when I was more reckless than safe. Heck when I recorded my grandpa driving, I got a near perfect score with him going 10miles under the speed limit and making a dangerously wide turn into the other lane. :)👍 -- Dylan. I really do not know -- KatsTones, 2024-08-29 ### ****- "I want to love it, but it falls short in areas" I like how the app keeps a map of the trips and comments on the three top issues with driving, however, the badges don’t match up. Did over 3 trips in a week and badge is not showing up. The scoring is off as well. I was driving with my child on two different occasions and both times have a lower score based on acceleration. Both time my child was not accelerating. Sometimes it’s a little too sensitive. My child had it on but the vehicle was making a sound and asked me to check on it. I asked my child to move steering wheel back and forth and hit the gas a bit. Apparently this threw my child into a lower grade for that trip since he had it on while we were checking out the car. The app also says I can leave feedback for my child which is not the case. My mentor page also does not break down the scores or show a map. It’s an ok app and I like how it does give my child something to use as feedback.
