Substack Reviews

Great Service but too expensive

Bluebranch_123 on

United Kingdom

I think Substack is a brilliant platform but the cost in the UK of subscribing is simply too prohibitive. £6 p/m for one newsletter that might release a couple a week is a crazy amount to pay. It’s a shame because I like to support independent media but that is simply too much. I hope in future they can determine better payment options.

Email spam

Does not allow you to subscribe without spamming you with emails. I just want to see certain newsletters on my feed without constant spam.

App crashes

BGISAWFUL on

United Kingdom

App crashes when I try to read older articles on Liberating motherhood. I’ve paid my subscription so I could read them. I scroll down and then it crashes and I have to restart 😭

What a beautiful place this is to be! It refreshes the soul. So glad I joined, there’s so much talent here, shared with love. Thank you

Cannot login - or logout!

Buck Bullet on

United Kingdom

I typed the wrong email address when setting up the app for the first time. Unbelievably there is no way to go back and change your choice. I quit the app and found I was logged in with a user profile, with an id, but no name. And there’s no logout option! Deleting the app and reinstalling does nothing, the app is now permanently stuck on a broken non-existent profile.

Misleading

Brumgart on

United Kingdom

There is no price model declared at the time of downloading the app. Once you setup your details you have no option but to subscribe. So I deleted the app. I need to know what has happened to my personal details but so far I can’t find out .dubious business practices

Unable to tag my posts

SGFN on

United Kingdom

I’ve put a lot of work into my substack posts and the only gripe I have is fundamental: I can’t tag my posts. There are plenty of sources to say that I can tag by hitting edit and adding tags in the tags box. But the box doesn’t appear in iOS or OS on my Mac (both of these are up to date). I know tagging is a recent innovation but this is basic stuff. Neither readers or the author can find the stuff.
