Starting Version 5, Symphony Pro now offers handwriting recognition as the only in-app purchase: Perfect with Apple Pencil, and works great with touch or capacitive stylus GETTING STARTED SP provides all of the key options to begin your work. Import a score via MusicXML, MXL, MIDI, or SP file from your computer, or from apps like Dropbox, Mail, iCloud Drive, or Safari. You can base your project on a template, or start a blank score and add additional parts later. EDITING To add notes, choose Pencil mode, and tap anywhere on a bar to begin editing right away. The biggest improvement that could be made is the formatting. This app is the reason I bought my iPad Pro. I absolutely love it. Scoring is easy, and with MusicXML it’s cool to send the score to another app like Notion. Update: after version 6, this app is again my number one app for scoring music. I still favour Notion on my desktop, but all the hard work is done in Symphony Pro. I really liked this last update. This is the only satisfactory and easy to use app I have found in the app store for writing sheet music (and I have really been looking). The earlier problems with crashing and freezing have more or less been solved. When finishing a song I convert it to pdf file by e-maling it to myself and then open the attached file in the Goodreader app (you can also turn your iPad to portrait mode and get a clean picture of your written music there, but I think it's easier to systematize the files in Goodreader). No paper sheets on stage anymore when performing with my band - just the iPad attached to a microphone stand. Perfect... But the developers still have a way to go regarding some details in the final viewable result, especially fine editing the number of bars on a page. One should be able to completely control where to shift to the next page as far as I have learned to use the app (f. ex. to avoid turning to a new page in the middle of a complex passage). There is also a problem when converting SP file to pdf - the pdf file does not always look the same as the SP file (f.ex. next page starts on a different place than the SP-file). Then I read the comments, but I had to try it anyway. This app, is actually great! Not nearly powerful as those for pc. But still, one could do a lot with this app. For composers that write very complex music, it might fall short. But for beginners and medicore composers, it is realy a great app. When that's said.....It is completely useless. Don't Get me wrong. The gui and functionality is great, and the price for this is not bad. Unfortunately this app is so full og bugs, that it's more productive to write music on old fashion note paper. It regulary crashes, freeze up, and does not always save your work. You can work on a longer piece, only to find the app crashing, and most of the work gone when you start it up again. As someone else here said, it's a headache. This app could easily be on of the best of it's kind. But so far, the dev seems uninterested. Hadde det ikke vært for disse feilene så hadde appen vært meget god og verdt de 105 kronene de skal ha for den, men når feilene er så mange og så omfattende så går det veldig ut over produksjonshastighet. And if this product was anywhere near usable, I would consider it good value for money. But this is a buggy pile of crap. The programming engineers behind this **** have obviously no professional integrity releasing this half baked misery. It drops out for no reason, it looses midi connectivity the moment I leave it to watch a handwritten pdf score. Importing xml destroys the original file it was made from. God only knows what else dung I will run into, if I could be bothered to keep investigating this legoland software. I only pray that pros like Finale and Sibelius and the likes come up with a sturdy notation software worth spending time and money on! Because now I only bought myself a migraine. Symphony Pro App is a nice looking app with all the features you can expect from a music notation program for a portable device. At the moment it is probably the only choice at the App store in this category. There is one problem though... The sounds are absolutely horrible. Most of them are not even usable.
