Description

Symphony Pro 6 is a complete and intuitive app for writing music notation on iPad. It allows you to compose music for just about any size ensemble, from piano, symphonies, band, lead sheets, chord charts, guitar tabs, and more.
Starting Version 5, Symphony Pro now offers handwriting recognition as the only in-app purchase: Perfect with Apple Pencil, and works great with touch or capacitive stylus
GETTING STARTED
SP provides all of the key options to begin your work. Import a score via MusicXML, MXL, MIDI, or SP file from your computer, or from apps like Dropbox, Mail, iCloud Drive, or Safari. You can base your project on a template, or start a blank score and add additional parts later.
EDITING
To add notes, choose Pencil mode, and tap anywhere on a bar to begin editing right away. You can quickly specify note properties before or after placing notes. By switching to Select mode with one touch, you can also transpose, erase, cut, and paste multiple notes/tracks.
With an on-screen instrument, a QWERTY keyboard, or Core MIDI compatible keyboard, you can quickly enter notes & chords in step entry mode. Record a part in real-time with on-screen instruments to transcribe into notation.
Versions 4 & 5 take greater advantage of the iPad touchscreen. With shortcuts and contextual menus to edit note & bar properties, many of the commonly used editing commands are right at your fingertips.
SP supports a wide range of notational elements for your composition. Including dynamics & articulations, time & key signature changes, clef changes, pedals, and repeat conventions. Edit chord symbols, lyrics, and annotations using the iPad’s standard keyboard.
EXPORT & SHARE
When you’re finished, print out your score with AirPrint, or export it as a PDF, MusicXML, AAC, MIDI, or Symphony file. Share files via email or directly to another computer or iPad via Dropbox/iCloud Drive.

Symphony Pro Reviews

great app

revwez on

United Kingdom

takes some work to get familiar with all the options but the help menu is a good tool to keep handy. Made scoring parts easy and interfaces with other music software with ease via airdrop. Glad I found it.

BROKEN APP, NO SUPPORT

swarmcollector on

United Kingdom

I have used Symphony for many years but this version has a fatal bug. The project menu does not work on iPad Pro M1 so you cannot Exit or Save As any file. If you close the app, it comes back in the same music file. The only way to open a new file is to uninstall the app and reinstall it so that you can get to the list of projects. I have tried several times to contact customer support but there is absolutely no response of any kind. There is no evidence to suggest that they have a customer support. So, it was a great app in the past. Now it is unusable on modern Apple Silicon technology and a complete waste of money for users like me. Best avoid it.

Crashes

Not working

The app will not close the project to start a new project. Simply not working. Please fix.

Fantastic but file close bug

RBJ001 on

United Kingdom

Love the app use it a lot but a new bug has appeared. I see others reporting this too and there is a work around!! BUG: when viewing a file, ie a score, file close option pops up far to briefly to allow you to actually close the file and then disappears. So you cannot access ANY other file/score! OK to fix this: Go to ios main settings -> go down to the Symphony Pro specific settings-> reset cache and restore defaults. A bit irritating, but will sort the problem! Did for me anyway My old fix… This worked for switching file…. Not for saving though! WORKAROUND: Go to ios main settings -> go down to the Symphony Pro specific settings-> down near the bottom there is an option to always open the app in the “projects window”. THEN swipe up on the app to shut it down and relaunch. You should now be in the files browser window and able to chose the file you want. Worked for me!!

Bugs

cc-trpt on

United Kingdom

I can no longer access any of my work due to a bug that wont let me close the file that I’m viewing. It’s the same on both my iPads. Not very useful to a professional musician

Pretty good

MasSnickers on

United Kingdom

Score/part writing with pencil is tricky. Menus could be more constructive and intuitive. Generally a really good score writing tool but sounds are often unrealistic. Copy, paste, delete sometimes flakey.

Bad Customer Support

grrfefgtnunygrfrbynvdb on

United Kingdom

The app works fine. But don’t bother emailing the company for any support as they just don’t bother replying. This is making things really inconvenient for me now.

Update again

!(J4cob)! on

United Kingdom

The updates are just making everything worse. It’s now crashing constantly, and still has a lot of the same problems that came with version 6. I just want to go back to version 5 so I can actually get some work done. I’m going to have to find another notation software because I literally cannot use this one. I really want to, I’ve always loved this software but I *literally* cannot do any work
