For now." This app is okay - it does what it says on the tin and lets you turn your heating on and off. However, I was a little naive when running to make the home ‘smart’ as you think it’s the best idea. After a week or so, you lose the “premium” features unless you pay a subscription. Meaning this is now just my old heating system, but I can control it from my phone rather than the wall unit. My issue with smart tech and why I’m reluctant to invest further - you pay hundreds for the devices, but then need to also pay a monthly subscription forever to actually unlock the features advertised. Also - if Tado closed down for whatever reason and the app stopped working … that’s it. It may still work with Homekit due to the Tado Bridge but any fancy features would be a thing of the past. I refuse to pay a subscription fee so I’m left with my old heating system, but I use my phone instead. No other advantage. Have a good think before rushing to put smart bulbs, heating, CCTV and all sorts across your house to replace traditional systems. -- Charlie8262727, 2025-01-16 ### *---- "I really like my Tado" Tado works really well and is relatively easy install & set up. We managed and we are in our late 60’s. So if we can do it, anyone can, but you need to be follow the instructions carefully, be very patient & contact Tado. Who will eventually send you detailed instructions to set it up with you particular boiler. I installed one at my 90 year old, millionaire, stepmother’s house. So she couldn’t turn off her heating and hot water off to save money. Unfortunately, switching off her heating was making her house cold, damp & it had started growing mould on the walls in the kitchen & bathrooms. Anyway my only complaint is about the Tado operating system : for most people I am sure it will not be a problem. However, I couldn’t have two Tado systems operating from one phone. This was because, for some reason. I couldn't switch between emails addresses on the app & obviously I could not download the app twice for two different addresses etc. In the end I had to buy a new iPad. I use the new email adress, I had set up for her. To operate her Tado system. If I had known all this Ibefore I bought her Tado. I would have opted for a different brand. I would thoroughly recommend the system to you. As the outside temperature drops, I note that the tado radiator valves manage the room temperatures and maintain the overall warmth of the house. All hardware is connected and internet is working fine. Help desk option is really useless. They simply asked me to uninstall and reinstall the application. But once you uninstall the application there is no way to sign back in. Their signin option doest work. In theory, it’s a great system but it’s let down by the devices. Radiator dials always lose connection and think their batteries are dead. The water unit just stopped working. Now randomly the main central heating unit is “offline”. So it’s time to move on from Tado. My old timers are going back on as they are much more reliable. -- Tomorrowsjoeuk, 2024-12-30 ### ***** "Top tech" Things to note. Make sure you install the heads correctly to each rad. I saw a bad review on screwfix. But that is installer error. It may take a while for everything to update. So install it and wait an hour or so before giving up thinking it’s not working it’s still updating. Make sure in settings you have the zones set up correctly to control individual zones. Example if some trv heads are set to come on with your thermostat they won’t fire the boiler. Unless to change the zone settings. YouTube vids will show you how to do this. And have at least two other rads come on at all times. Example my bath and front door area don’t have trv heads as I need at least 2kw of output for my boiler to run efficiently. One rad may only need 1 ke so the boiler won’t be efficient. I already had a nest and wireless controlled rad valves. However, they were slow to control, unreliable and not easy to fit or setup. Tado is the system I was looking for and I’m so pleased that a friend recommended them to me. Easy to fit and setup although it did take me a while to get used to the in’s and out of the app and just using the system.
