Tai Chi Pushing Hands (YMAA) Reviews

Hours of detailed instruction!

This app has two IAPs, one for each DVD. They usually cost $40 but are $9.99 usd here. Read the ‘About’ page for the content details. It includes a systematic method of solo training, then partner, with lessons of sticky hands or ‘symbol hands’ and using a wood taiji ball. Dr Yang mentions that you learn various types of Jin, or power, like “ listening, neutralizing, coiling” and how to sense an opponent’s center when you push hands. Really excellent.

Great content

This app contains the content from the YMAA DVD Tai Chi Pushing Hands disc 1 and contains Courses 1&2 of the Pushing Hands session given by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming. Dr. Yang once again delivers outstanding instruction. The courses include solo and partner exercises in single (one hand) and double (two hand) pushing hands, along with info on how to use a heavy bag and Tai Chi ball to improve power. Dr. Yang's students perform some of the demonstrations, and Dr. Yang gives his corrections to their practice. This is a major benefit to me as I see many of the mistakes i make and Dr. Yang's explanations of how to correct them are invaluable. I had previously watched the Tai Chi Martial Applications DVD and wondered how to actually use the applications in real time. These courses deliver that information and more. One note: the layout of this app is essentially the same as the DVD, so it's navigability is lacking compared to instructional courses which are designed specifically to be app-based. I am very happy with the app because I can view the same content from the DVD without having to connect my external Superdrive to my MacBook.
