I tried to adjust it to get her to speak normal or slow to no avail. However after paying for it I cannot use the online version on my phone. So I download the app. I successfully sign in but then I am asked to pay again to proceed. My email even has the receipt from them. So it seems ridiculous that my account is not working even after they received my money. The actual conversations are quite frustrating for a lot of reasons, at least for Chinese, making it not a great conversation partner for learning. It’ll frequently respond properly in Chinese characters then decide it’s going to repeat the same thing again as pinyin in parenthesis and unless you’re speaking with native news broadcaster clarity it misunderstands way more than an actual teacher. -- mcfarljw, 2025-04-23 ### *---- "Terrible App" I am so disappointed with the app. I initially canceled my subscription in the first 7 days (for free) because sending AI messages kept erroring out. Today, the company sent an email offering a free month to try out the newly improved/updated app. It’s actually far worse than before. For example, I am learning Brazilian Portuguese. When I try to initiate a conversation by saying “oi, tudo bem?” the app doesn’t even get close to what I’m saying. This happens whether I use my Apple AirPods or try directly into the phone. Definitely do NOT recommend. This app works nothing like you see in YouTube videos or elsewhere. Don’t waste your money and especially don’t waste your time. I am moving to Brazil in a few months for work, and 15 colleagues and I are taking intensive Brazilian Portuguese every day. As a linguist, I appreciate the concept and not sure what AI model they use but there is a lack of structure to this app. Maybe I used it wrong or didn’t use the app to its full potential but for me $300 a year, they are just using a YouTube’s celebrity’s stardom to charge that much. I feel cheated but only because I forgot to cancel my subscription. So I cheated myself. But seriously, $300 a year? About 40% of the time it errors out before processing my speech. It’s a shame. This is a great idea but the execution needs some work. I noticed it can have trouble hearing correctly, especially with Spanish. Another bug that I noticed more recently is the option to display the pinyin alongside Chinese characters no longer works. This makes trying to learn a lot more difficult.
