“I started reading The Economist 30 years ago. I have subscribed the entire time without interruption. It is the best conceived, written and edited newspaper in the English language.”
“Great app, excellent journalism! The Economist is wonderful. The content is interesting and relevant and the reporting is superlative. Equally impressive is the drive to stay relevant by presenting media in multiple formats, from print to podcasts and short videos.”
“Impeccable journalism with an app to match. The Economist doesn’t need my endorsement of the quality of their journalism. It speaks for itself. Rather, I’ll comment that their app is well-designed and refreshing to use…I love being able to easily download entire editions, listen to articles with real narrators and search for past articles.”

The Economist Reviews

Easy navigation

Fankida on

Thailand

Easy to navigate as the structure of content is familiar for a reader used to the paper issue. Download time is good, no complaints, thank you.

Love the economist worst app ever

d20blue on

Thailand

App is slow buggy non responsive constantly crashes. Please fix it. I love reading the content but I can’t use the app ever. Every 2 articles it crashes. Do better please.

App got buggier after update

Harrypoom Pras on

Thailand

I am usually an avid reader of the Economist but this latest update of the application is driving me to seriously cancel my subscription. Unlike the previous versions, articles on the app take many seconds to load; buttons are unresponsive; and the audio player simply doesn’t work. Now it is just a pain to use the application. The app used to be a bright spot of the subscription but I am not sure if this is still the case.

Ruined iPad app

Romaseet on

Thailand

Almost stopped reading the paper from my iPad because of the poor user experience after a recent update. The layout became too narrow with to much empty space on the sides, what is event more frustrating is that I don’t have any control over the layout. Big disappointment. Hope it will be improved.

Good content but terrible app

CHACHERD on

Thailand

I subscribed via the Legacy app and have been trying to migrate to the new app but could not find my currently subscription in the new app. Spent an hour chatting with the Economist team and found out that they do not have my current subscription(and probably the payment), which is impossible because i did renew my subscription on Itunes and can still access my new issues on the Legacy app. They told me to contact iTunes as they cannot do anything, which is unbelievable. It is clearly the company’s internal problem.

Fine for reading, still terrible audio functionality

candadesh on

Thailand

I have been using The Economist iOS app for 10 years, primarily for audio consumption. Incredibly the audio service has gotten worse since then, with this version of the app the absolute worst. The old app used to allow each article and section to be downloaded easily for offline use. This version has no such control, has extremely buggy playback, and for a time, did not allow playback of downloaded audio without an internet connection - defeating the purpose entirely! I currently only use this app on iPad, and thankfully am still able to use the legacy app for audio on iPhone.

My reliable source of information for decades.

Iabpaskorn on

Thailand

The Economist has been my source of information and ideas for more than three decades.

Love content can improve usability

O-Choedpong on

Thailand

I love listening to the stories especially while on my treadmill. It would be really nice if there’s a feature with playlist that plays the audio of only the articles I have bookmarked in an issue.

The Best!

Matus.P on

Thailand

Quality content. Worth for what you spend!

Reading Offline Problem

Sam RPI on

Thailand

In general, this version is better than the previous ones. One problem is when I read on the plane without internet access, it will ask me to subscribe or to log in. So I just can’t read the magazine!
