I use to use this app all the time but now it’s like every time I try to use it, it can’t find what I’m scanning. I was actually getting on to see if it needed to be updated (it doesn’t, updated last week) because I scanned a sauce that has been in my pantry for months, so it’s not even new and it couldn’t find it.
This app is such a vital tool for a Celiac, and especially for my non-Celiac family members who understand less about how to read food labels and find food that is safe for me to eat. When they can scan a food label and get a clear GLUTEN FREE or CONTAINS GLUTEN label, that is very helpful. Most of the time, you get a more ambiguous “No gluten-containing ingredients” which then requires the research rabbit hole us Celiacs are all familiar with. I know it must be really hard to add in manufacturer info beyond the ingredient list and certification status of many thousands of products. One feature idea is to add a voting system or comments on individual products so celiacs can easily share notes such as “I called the manufacturer and they told me x,y,z” or “this brand is generally safe” etc. This would be hugely helpful, since the users of this app have to do tons of research on everything we eat anyway, and it would be helpful to scan a barcode and if it isn’t a clear GF or non-GF, to benefit from the research other celiacs have done. Could partner with celiac.com, which is where a lot of this research is disseminated. Another suggestion for iOS: integration with the Control Center so you can call up the scanner as easily as the phone’s flashlight or camera. Also, adding Shortcuts capabilities so app users can improve access and usability on their own devices. Generally, the app could use some improvement on its user interface and navigation. Like I said, it’s an invaluable resource, but I’d love to see it making incremental improvements to its database and usability. I really hope this happens! Anyway, thank you for doing this work, I am so grateful.
App was great but doesn’t seem to be updated for many current SKU’s. Constantly getting “Barcode number not found” for common products.
As a newly diagnosed Celiac patient, I am looking for an app that I can quickly scan items while shopping. I don’t want to spend all day at the store reading every label, I just want a quick yes or no. This could be a good app, but so many common items are missing from the database. I could understand store brand products missing, but Ruffles chips and Ben’s rice? These are national brands!
It work’s on some barcodes but there is multiple I’ve scanned and it doesn’t have any information on it, but works great when it is a good on the app.
It’s nice to look up stuff to see if it’s gluten free or not but I’m mad I paid for an app for it to constantly glitch/freeze
Does not tell if gluten free
Over 100 attempts at scanning and the screen just goes white after every scan. Need to kill the app to get out of the white screen. My wife's Samsung seems to work great- my iPhone 12 Pro Max- not so much.
So Aldi, Whole Foods and Giant Eagle are most common for having a lot of GF options. As of today - the “search ingredients” part of the app is broken/ not working/ won’t search. Also- if there was a photo of the actual ingredients list, that would be super helpful as most celiac has other issues/ allergies and would be nice to see all in one place. If you opened it up w that- I think you’d expand your audience! Aldi has the most items that are “regular” not labeled GF and has half the amount of garbage, ingredients you can’t even pronounce, I would love to see these items in your list. Since one they are healthier already and even cheaper - people w celiac are also spending more - so this dramatically helps! Thanks for this app. When it does work- it’s nice.
