## The Times Literary Supplement Description
A vibrant way of reading the TLS on your Apple device. With its combination of literary discoveries, incisive criticism, essays, poems and debate, the TLS is for anyone with an interest in the world of culture and ideas.  In addition, you will find an easy search function, the weekly TLS podcast and full access to years of back issues. From fiction to philosophy, religion to politics, social studies to film: TLS readers can decipher, discuss and delve into it all.

The TLS app is free to download and you can access the contents in  the following ways:

1)     If you subscribe to the TLS, simply log in by using your surname and your subscriber number.

2)     You can buy individual issues for £2.99 or an auto-renewing subscription at £7.99pm from the iTunes store.
 
Subscription renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of your current period, otherwise the account will be charged as normal. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal by going to Account Settings.

It's just a shame that (1) the app pesters incessantly for an app-store review, which I didn't want to give so soon after downloading and (2) there is a "loading wheel" permanently in the middle of the screen on the iPad app when reading (a spoked one, composed of fat lines radiating from a central point, pulsing in a circular motion).

UPDATE: the trick with the circular whatnot (which appears on iPhone as well) is that it only appears on articles accessed directly from the article menu. So click on the article before and swipe to the one you want.

Possibly something to do with background app refresh, but the constant spinning icon in the centre of the app is TERRIBLE.
Occasionally you can trick it into disappearing by toggling background app refresh on and off, but you need to do this for EVERY article. Makes the app unpleasant to use.
The web version is easier, but no dark mode and it has an annoying habit of forgetting you are a subscriber within minutes.

Alex Clark is a great addition to the podcast team although Thea always provided a stimulating listen.

The TLS consistently provides the opportunity to learn and to be excited by that new learning.

The introductory editorial piece is always worth a read. Some good humour.

I signed up a week ago. This does everything I could wish for, apart from downloading / sharing full articles which is an understandable limitation.
The font size can be changed, and the menu navigation makes browsing easy. It’s good to be able to go to back issues immediately and at £12.50 per quarter is great value.

The app. used to be splendid, but it is now impossible to share articles, moreover members of the help team appear to have buried their heads in the sand. Extremely disappointing! A lamentable and retrograde "development".

Since writing the above, I have renewed my subscription, but no improvement has been made. The app does not function well with iOS, since the share function fails every time to produce a link, url etc., rendering sharing impossible. Customer Services refuse to acknowledge that this is the case.

Trying to log in with subscriber number often fails.  Frustrating. Why can a subscriber not simply have a password with email recovery?  Additionally, the index for each week ought to be fuller, as in the printed paper, and you should be able to get a proper picture of the cover which is often interesting.
