## The Westport Independent Description
A game about Censorship, Corruption and Newspapers

The Westport Independent is a censorship simulator taking place in a post-war country, governed by the recently elected Loyalist Party. As the editor of one of the last independent newspapers in the country, your job is to remove and edit the content of your paper, affecting the people’s opinion of both the rebels and the Loyalist government. With an increase of rebel activity and an ever watching government breathing down your neck, whose truth will you print?

Features
- Change the content and meaning of your articles by censoring them to your liking. While you can’t lie, you don’t have to tell the whole truth either.
- Employees with fleshed out character, who will not only react to your actions, but also discuss them with other colleagues.
- Receive letters and messages from public figures, rebel leaders, employees and other characters affected by your actions.
- Adaptive stories where your actions affect the opinions of the people, which affects what happens in the city, which in turn affects the stories you receive.

Awards and recognition
- Biggest surprise at The MIX GDC 2015, IGN
- Part of "Three Cool Surprises From PAX 2015", from Kotaku
- Part of "The Very Best Indie Games of GDC 2015", from Gameinformer
- The Best of GDC 2015, 148 apps

## The Westport Independent Reviews in United States

### **--- "Keeps crashing"
Love the concept except it crashes and exits the app every few seconds. I can’t even complete the first day.
-- RealisReviewer2021, 2025-11-30

### ***** "GLORY TO THE PRESIDENT!"
I have made every district loyal, all rebels have barricaded themselves in their homes and police are clearing them out as we speak.

GLORY TO THE PRESIDENT

I just started playing and I loved the game so much I made a subreddit for it
-- Elephant87621, 2025-11-09

### ****- "Great game but the bugs are bad"
Hello! I personally love this game and it’s a shame more games haven’t been created from this point of view. My main issue however is the bugs I’ve been experiencing on mobile. If I could show pictures I would but any time I would start the game up, it would crash immediately. This happens for one or two more times until the game actually boots up. Another one I just experienced was the black intractables. I just started a week and several parts of the screen were blacked out. Here is the following so far:
-Mail (both unopened and opened)
-The potential articles (Just unopened I can still interact with them normally)
-and lastly the employee IDs.

I have no understanding of why this would be happening so I felt it would be important to note. Also I’m 95% sure this game is on computer so you could play it on your desktop if you want.

Edit: Some of week 5’s articles are the same as week 4’s. This game needs to be fixed.

### ***** "Best game"
Use to be my favorite game back in the day glad to see it on the AppStore
-- FearOfFears, 2025-07-01

### ***-- "Great game, just too short"
I love this game, I just wish it were longer! I like seeing how popular my paper is in the different regions, if I have to worry about being suspicious to the Loyalists, and publishing the articles in the right way. I need more! Please add more to the game!
-- gigngrin, 2024-10-17

### *---- "Doesn’t even open"
Error
-- Yousif222, 2024-03-07

### *---- "Game keeps crashing :("
I’ve tried to launch the app several times, but it crashes each time either before or right after displaying the game studio logo. I’ve tried turning off and restarting my phone as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but it seems I can’t play it
-- LNEichman, 2023-11-26

### *---- "Wont open anymore"
So I got this game like a year or two ago and now it won’t open, I’ll open it and once the loading screen hits, just kicks me out.
-- PraiseEmperor543, 2023-11-10

### **--- "Uh"
Short, my choices don’t impact the story, and it won’t even let me open the app after I finished it once. Art style is cool. Hate this game.
-- gag_face, 2023-10-09

### *---- "let down"
i was exited for this game. im getting bored with iphone mobile games and downloaded in hopes that this will keep me entertained. it wont let me get in. it crashes instantly. please fix this because from what ive seen, this game looks great. i have already checked my storage, i’ve restarted my phone, ive also checked the compatibility. it wont let me in. if you could fix this that would be great, thanks.
