[ Thermohygrometric Index Meaning]

The Thermohygrometric Index (THI) is an index that aims to roughly calculate the Thom Index (heat discomfort) directly with temperature and relative humidity, thus excluding from the calculation the temperature the wet bulb. The THI, unlike the index of Thom, is an index which goes directly to a climate classification, rather than to a biometeoclimatica classification system, starting from specific hygrothermal values. It is valid both for extremely hot weather phases, as for very cold periods. With temperatures above 46°C, even with changes in relative humidity, the index always identifies the extreme class. The following table shows the temperature threshold with its bio-climatic categories or, rather, climatic. In this index (as for other indices taken into account) is not taken into account wind factor.
