I really want to like this service, but I don’t. It is constantly displaying the wrong album cover for what’s currently playing, has a tendency to repeat songs without instruction, and it is incredibly hard in many circumstances to find whatever song you’re looking for through search unless you spell it out exactly, even if it’s an incredibly popular song. Genuinely the only positive things I have to say about it is that it’s slightly higher fidelity and isn’t Spotify. Even then, because of the playback quality, if you don’t have excellent service and you want to listen a song not in your library, you are screwed.

I like the layout, curated personal playlist. I hate that the live DJing was taken away. I was very active there & I wish there was a Family plan that also allowed you to use the DJ add-on. It’s annoying having my individual subscription for my DJ purposes then the rest of my family has to have their own.

So over all I like the sound quality. The algorithm is odd to say the least…it doesn’t always stick with the vibe you’re going with and tries to go in a slightly different direction. Also, I listen to a lot of metal and goth rock but for some reason it keeps suggesting Christian playlists (barf)…like, that’s rude…the app also doesn’t always show my most recent playlist either

I love Tidal, the U.I. Is clean, the audio quality is phenomenal, family plan pricing is reasonable, and they pay artists significantly better than some platforms (Spotify….). However, it drops connection all the time. Two different phones carriers even switched to ios and thought maybe the app would load better. I’m constantly having to skip songs in order for the next handful to play. It doesn’t happen as often on wifi but if I can play a 4k video on cellular I see no reason for these connection issues. This one problem almost makes the app un usable but I refuse to give any money to Spotify.

Generally I like the app. My number one issues are 1) I have not been able to reliably access my downloaded content when offline, ie a plane or no service area. All show downloaded, nothing in the queue. It can be infuriating when this bug hits you on a several hour flight. I've taken a screen recording to send in...if they cared.
2) the app will stop playing a song out of nowhere, both desktop and mobile. It actually just now happened to me on desktop, code S1003, prompting this review.
I have an iphone17 and a MacBook. I would love if they could reach bug free parity with Spotify, but I'll stick with them because they're better to the artists.

honestly tidal would be unstoppable if they fixed the multitude of glitches the app has. Sometimes buttons are unresponsive, shuffle and skip for example. If you hit skip one too many times it just starts playing 1 second of a song and continue skips until you force quit the app and restart it again. i once did that and when reopening the app it just kept skipping all songs. this app freezes constantly. I wish they would pause the roll out of their new features and just fix the basic stuff. i hate spotify and there’s not many good alternatives out there. the music quality and music discovery is the best i’ve ever seen and the only thing stopping me from reccomending tidal to my peers is how horrendous the app functions. Constantly getting 0:403 error codes and takes an incredibly long time to even play the next song when i’m streaming on the lowest quality on my incredibly fast internet.

I haven’t used this app in years and it just came to my attention that it’s still charging me. I thought I cancelled it long before. I won’t argue about that, however when I look on the app for an option to stop my subscription, it is not there. I’ve spent easily over $100 on this if I’m being charged $12 every month. Even though I thought I cancelled it. But my biggest issue is there is no process to end the service on their app.

Plays CD quality 16-bit 41.1kHz. I called Tidal, the gall had me go through the useless steps they always make you do: is your iPhone up to date, uninstall reinstall the app. Nothing changed. She then said someone would look into it and they would call me but it could take some time. It’s been over 6 months, still no call back and it still plays CD quality. It doesn’t matter if I play it on my phone or use an external DAC with wired connection to my headphones or play it on my stereo speakers through my preamp. And now they are raising the subscription price. Already cancelled

Without a fail, the crashes and when in poor signal or no signal the app will not function. Having music downloaded is not worth it because the app can not play it even without signal or airplane mode. Needs major fixing.

No track history. You can’t find any songs you played and I repeated a song 5 times in a curated playlist and forgot everything about it. Come to find out if you do this tidal automatically removes it from the playlist and the queue and from generating that song for future playlists

I have been using this for a few years now.  After upgrading my plan from the original Verizon Unlimited to a newer Unlimited Ultimate, steaming music and videos began losing network connection.  This continued from my Galaxy S21 to iPhone 17 Pro, it’s not the phone and different apps.  Second the shuffle is about 30% random from what I can tell without doing the math in Excel.  Don’t appreciate starting with the same songs and constantly playing one artist when there are over 1,000 in the playlist.  I jump across platforms, shuffle should follow there as well since they keep track of what I listen to.
