Description

An easy-to-use, open-source two-factor authentication app designed specifically for iOS.
Tofu generates one-time passwords to help you protect your online accounts. These passwords are used together with your normal password when you sign into services like Google, Facebook, Dropbox, Amazon, and GitHub.
Tofu works with all services that provide two-factor authentication using the HOTP and TOTP algorithms. It does not require a network or cellular connection and can be used in airplane mode.
Features include:
- Scan the QR code your issuer provides to automatically add your account.
- Search your accounts by name to quickly find the one you're looking for.
- Support for both counter-based and time-based one-time passwords with 6 or 8 digits using the SHA1, SHA256, and SHA512 algorithms.
- Requires no network or cellular connection and can be used in airplane mode.
- All your account details are safely stored in the iOS keychain.
Tofu is open source and free software licensed under the ISC license. The source code is available for review and modification on https://github.com/calleerlandsson/tofu.

No Export Ability

I want to love it but it doesn’t have the ability to provide an encrypted export of your tokens. Hopefully this feature is implemented in the future. Thank you.

Did NOT Save in iCloud

I got this 2FA app per a recommendation from privacy tools. I loved how easy it is to use and privacy respecting. However it did not save in iOS keychain like the description claimed it would. Due to an issue, I had to factory reset my phone and lost everything from this app. There is no way to restore from a backup either.

I love this Been using it for years Only request i have, could you add QR code export feature? It would be very useful. Maybe an export all feature along with that would be fantastic. Thanks!

Simple reliable MFA app

This is a good, reliable, easy to use app. I would pay for this just for the privacy aspect. Add in a backup option and definitely worth a few bucks.

Needs Face Authentication

Why doesn’t it have face authentication if it has so much sensitive data in it!!! That should be a must!!

Best authenticator out there period

1.6 MB, open source, and no data linked to you! I’ve been using last pass authenticator for years but about a year ago I switched from last pass to a different password manager. I checked out privacy tools for a better authenticator and found this gem. The other alternative I was considering was Raivo but it uses more space and the license isn’t as good. Switch your authenticator to this, you won’t regret it

Great, simple app, but some major concern

umurmurum on

United States

This is the best 2FA option I’ve found so far. It’s to my taste: simply designed, unobtrusive and it just works. I did have some concerns though… I’m not really sure if it has any iCloud backup functions or syncing capabilities. It makes using and relying the app feel precarious because I’m never sure if for whatever reason I lose or brick my phone whether or not my keys will be there. I would really like some ability to save/sync my keys in the future, or at least some assurance that it’ll always be tied to my iPhone. Besides that, some options in settings and additional configuration would be great. It feels a little *too* bare. Please consider, devs!

Best 2FA app

Manfredgensenden on

This is the best two-factor authentication app I’ve used! It’s clean, neat, and beautiful. The account icons make it easy to find accounts and make using the app a pleasure. I can see 10 accounts on the screen at once (Max model), which is a lot more than the previous app I was using. It also doesn’t track you or collect any information, which is great. It’s open source too. Now the developer just needs to add a way for people to tip him on his website!
