TouchOSC is a modular OSC and MIDI control surface for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad by hexler.
It supports sending and receiving Open Sound Control and MIDI messages over Wi-Fi and CoreMIDI inter-app communication and compatible hardware.
The application allows to remote control and receive feedback from software and hardware that implement the OSC or MIDI protocols such as Apple Logic Pro/Express, Ableton Live, Renoise, Pure Data, Max/MSP/Jitter, Max for Live, OSCulator, VDMX, Resolume Avenue/Arena, Modul8, Plogue Bidule, NI Traktor, NI Reaktor, Quartz Composer, Supercollider, vvvv, Isadora and many others.
The interface provides a number of customizable touch controls to send and receive messages:
Faders / Rotary controls / Encoder controls / Push buttons / Toggle buttons / XY pads / Multi-faders / Multi-push / Multi-toggles / Multi-xy pads / LEDs / Labels / Time & battery displays
Additionally the program can send Accelerometer data. The application comes with example layouts and completely custom layouts can be constructed using the free TouchOSC Editor application.
Please see https://hexler.net/touchosc for more information, video demonstrations and download the free layout editor application for macOS, Windows and Linux and the free TouchOSC Bridge utility to easily control any MIDI-capable application on your computer.

TouchOSC Mk1 FAQ
Is TouchOSC Mk1 free?
Yes, TouchOSC Mk1 is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is TouchOSC Mk1 legit?
🤔 The TouchOSC Mk1 app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
- No step encoders
- No possibility to save/recall presets (settings)
- No detection of MIDI on Bluetooth. It’s required to run an app as Garageband, to link the MIDI via bluetooth, to be able to use it on touchosc. Very bad.
- Not any reading from MIDI, in order to light real LEDs or counters etc
This used to be the best
But nowadays you cannot possibly expect people to have java6 installed on their mac. The companion app won't start, and java6 is no longer installable on modern macs.
Awesome!!!
Works great!!! Logic under control! I love it. Works with ableton and traktor like a charm. Looks like I saved a lot of money on controllers! Thanks guys!!! P.S. Who wants my novation nocturn? :)
Amazing
Amazing application. Easy to use and responsive.
Would like to see some extra features in the near future, like, custom colors or button layouts.
Great
Was up and runing in 5 min to control ableton live I have a small lemur now great app!
Amazing
I use this for turning my iPhone into a midicontroller for Virtual DJ, and it works like a dream! The connection is real time and wireless, it looks great, and you can create your own lay-out (which is even not too difficult)! Simply amazing...
Excelente app
Al cambiar a un iPad de última generación, no detectaba el host. La solución fue buscar la app en la configuración del iPad y permitir el acceso a la red
Will Not Control Ableton Live From iPad
I’ve tried everything, followed the online “manual” (such as it is) and TouchOSC from my iPad will not send any midi control to Ableton Live. Installed TouchOSC Bridge on my desktop PC… multiple times, TouchOSC finds TouchOSC Bridge my desktop, connects to it with no issue, configured Ableton Live to correctly to send and receive MIDI using the TouchOSC Bridge but no midi commands from sent from my iPad using TouchOSC register in Ableton Live. I have wasted HOURS fighting with this app, did send in a contact request but as of yet no response. Even at one point installed Protokol, using the OSC protocol was able to see the midi messages being sent but STILL… no midi changes in Ableton. I WANT MY FIVE DOLLARS BACK!!!!
Abandoned app for more cash grab!
Instead of providing existing users with an update or special price for the new version the developer just renamed it and ABANDONED existing users!
Pretty and configurable, but wholly non-functional
The documentation is lacking, and I was not able to get this software working with touch bridgeOSC. Couldn’t find any recent tutorials on getting this to work, either. It’s a shame because this software has so much promise and I really want to love it, but the barrier to entry is just too high to make it worth it right now
