Amazing app, much easier to look up trains and buy tickets than most apps of national railway carriers (Netherlands, Belgium, France, even Germany). Big downside is that once a train gets cancelled, Trainline will not pay out the refund you are entitled to. I have been waiting for the refund for a train that got cancelled for over a year ago and still haven’t gotten my money.

It is quite easy to buy tickets but if you want to get refund it’s extremely difficult. I waisted 100 euro because my schedule has changed and in app refund were not possible. You will be prompted to call a number which is not working. I emailed them afterwards but they refused to process.

I got response from Trainline say” if my tickets are non refundable I will not get refund” How funny!! If they are non refundable tickets why would I waste my time writing reviews to warn others. 

Just to be clear, all the tickets I bought were 80% refund and unlimited change. I bought in total 12 tickets and because of change plan I needed to cancel and I didn’t get any refund!!

Canceled my trip with the NS to buy a first class ticket from you with a cabin for 6 persons. Only I paid almost 300 euro and then you said that you couldn’t deliver the tickets. Without any reason or further assistance.. so now I have tickets for the train after your train but missing 13 hours of my tripp because you can’t deliver. Please tell people that you can’t deliver before they pay! Or cancel another reservation. Now we can’t go because of you. Really frustrating! Plus I have to wait on 600 euro from 2 companies who will return my money in 5 days.. lost my money and out tripp. So I’m really really really disappointed!

Ik krijg een beetje het gevoel dat trainLine de boel loopt te flessen. 
Ik krijg regelmatig reizigers in de trein die een ticket hebben gekocht via deze app en daarmee eigenlijk fors te veel hebben betaald. 
Voorbeeld hiervan is de nachttrein van Arriva die een maal per week rijdt van Maastricht naar Schiphol en vv 
Een ticket voor deze trein kost rechtstreeks aangekocht via Arriva’s Glimble app €10,- 
Maar koop je dit zelfde ticket via trainLine dan betaal je €30,40 en bovendien is het ticket ook nog eens niet geldig want de TrainLine gegevens voor deze reis geven aan dat de NS deze rit rijd. 

Dat zijn dus een hoop kosten die je betaald in dit specifieke voorbeeld voor een ongeldig ticket.

Vanmiddag treinkaartje geboekt naar Zwitserland via trainline. Maar heel irritant, voordat de beschikbaarheid wordt gecheckt moet je al je kaartje betalen. Vervolgens krijg je dan een mail, ‘helaas, er is geen kaart beschikbaar’. Je krijgt je geld wel terug, maar wanneer. Echt irritant dit.  Kun je beter via NS international boeken. Zelfde prijzen en je kunt pas boeken als je kaart beschikbaar is. Overbodige app dus.

Do not use this third party app. If your train is cancelled/delayed, you have basically no coverage and no refunds. Better go with the train service provider, not a third party like Trainline.

It’s a convenient app but it has issues with the tickets. 

The QR code is too small on screen and unable to zoom in. 

And when trying to scan the ticket on the scanner at the gate the Apple iPay Wallet opens automatically, making it impossible to use the QR ticket at the station. The app doesn’t block the NFC reader on the iPhone unfortunately.

You need to print out the ticket on paper to be able to use it.

I’ve been using this app for a year and was really happy about it, my problems occurred last Saturday: my bus hasn’t arrived, there were no information neither at the busstop, nor in my e-mail or in an app. I wanted to contact someone and then I realized I could not find any single contact number in the app. Probably was just stressed and didn’t spot it. Also don't know what to do now: my bus hasn’t arrived, I had to buy 18 times more expensive ticket for a train and don't understand how I will get my money back 😒

Clear and use to use app. Also for me and my friends. 
Unfortunately I see a lot of international railway card and plans but not for the Dutch Railway (NS). 
I travel free or with discount on certain hours of the week with a subscription from the NS. Now I have to find out the last stop before crossing the border to book a tickets. Much easier when I can add my plan! 

But other than that, awesome!

I have used the app a lot in the past and really liked it.

Recently I selected a return trip but somehow only the outbound journey ended up in my cart. Since the price was the same I didn’t suspect any foul.

After I discovered I paid the price of a return plus a booking fee and only received one ticket, I contacted trainline support.

They were unsympathetic and blamed me for selecting the wrong trip, even though I have screenshots with what I selected and expected to pay.

I have stopped recommending this app and will not be booking my return trip through this trainline.

Disclaimer: Downloaded this app for a trip to Scotland; no idea if it works well elsewhere in the UK, but my experience has been terrible. Tried to book two bus tickets and a train ticket, details below!

I first used the app before I arrived in Scotland, to book a day trip to Edinburgh ahead of time. Booking it was easy, and I felt good for having that figured out already, to save myself stress later on. That single Holden moment was the only positive experience I’ve had with this app.

Upon arriving at the Glasgow airport, I figured I’d purchase a bus ticket to central. Did so, easily — but only after purchasing did it inform me that I needed to physically print a ticket, and that there were no printers at the airport. (It was seriously like ‘Glasgow airport doesn’t have one but tons of other stations do’ yeah ok awesome how can I get to those other stations if I can’t print a ticket to leave here though??) I was able to request a refund for this ticket, minus a fee. So got some money back put paid a decent chunk just due to not knowing I’d have to print it.

Remember that Edinburgh ticket I was feeling so contented with? It took me ages to see where I had to go to catch the bus (Buchanan Bus Station- this wasn’t written on my ticket anywhere, I had to dig up the confirmation email); and when I got there, the bus number listed (399) was nowhere to be found in the station. I needed to make it to Edinburgh at a specific time (hence me buying ahead of time!), so I bought a ticket from a bus driver for twice the price of the TrainLine ticket- AND I couldn’t request a refund for this ticket. Cool.

I decided to give the app one last try on my way back from Edinburgh. According to the app, a ticket from Waverly to Pollokshields would cost me 18 pounds. I decided to check prices in the station first, and they were only 15 per ticket.

So at every turn, this app has disappointed me and/or lost me money. Uninstalling it straightaway and not trusting my coworkers’ judgment on public transport apps in the future.

You can not personalize your advertising settings and the tickets can not be put digitally in the app you just have to pick them up at the station. I do not really see the benefits of this app except train times but you have to give a lot of privacy for that. You get unwanted commercial messages. Logging in works badly as well as lost password.
