Each update seems to reduce functionality. The app has now stopped showing me live data on my regular services, so I have no idea whether they are running to time, or even at all. I have to resort to the National Rail App or Trainline for information on my local services. I prefer to purchase tickets from my local provider but it’s hard when you don’t provide the key information.
If it wasn’t for one major flaw that can make this app unusable it would be good. You need to be able to download the ticket to your phone wallet not the app wallet as the app often loses connection to its server and then NOTHING is available or able to be shown on your device.
Bought a Multiflex ticket on Thursday 18th April. App shows a live ticket but doesn’t show the actual ticket so unable to access or use it on the line. Also can’t book any new tickets as the app won’t let you input start and end stations. Currently £43.00 down and seemingly no way of getting those tickets available or refundable.
The user has to do so much to get very little. For example, buying a ticket involves so many different screens and boxes to check. It does remember your previous journeys and rail cards and puts them at the top of the list but there isn’t an option of buying the same ticket for the next day for commuters. On top of that, the user has to view, then download and then activate the ticket purchased - online (when most stations here have no access to the internet). Once you do have a ticket with a specific date and time, the app doesn’t let you know of any delays or cancellations. There have been so many problems with the trains, but the app is useless and I have to find out before I lose signal on the National Rail website! Then once I realise the train is delayed or cancelled the app doesn’t automatically offer me a refund, I have to go to a website when back online. If it were a restaurant with a reservation I’ve made, the restaurant would contact me immediately if there was a problem. Otherwise the restaurant would be labelled “flakey”, unreliable and a let down.
A bit difficult to navigate and in particular to find what catering is available on what train (journey from Manchester to Cardiff and back). Not easy to tell exactly what the app is doing when I clicked on a journey- there doesn’t seem to be an indication that you are actually selecting that journey and then being directed to select your return journey, as opposed to looking what the level of service is on each journey. There doesn’t seem to be an option to look for either std class or first class fairs only. It maybe ok for basic journeys but I wouldn’t be actually convinced I was buying the correct ticket for my chosen journey. All developers should take a look at the LNER app which is far and above anything that anyone else has developed.
Far too many screens to buy a ticket. Takes 3 clicks on trainline for an open return - this took at least 6 and hadn’t remembered my railcard so I had to start again. Plus can’t add to apple wallet
TFW are an appalling train company. Their trains are either late or cancelled, if they do turn up there are never enough carriages for passengers who wish to travel. Quite astonishing, therefore, that the app is really pretty good. Credit where it's due, It's clearly laid out, easy to use, and I genuinely can't think of any problem I've ever had with it. Sadly, I can't say the same for the rest of TFW......
If you find yourself without WiFi or data for any reason, the app will not load and you won’t be able to access your ticket.
Used to load, now takes about 5 mins to load. And closes if you switch to other app so have fun showing your ticket!
