Tread® FAQ
Is Tread® free?
Yes, Tread® is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Tread® legit?
⚠️ The Tread® app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
After ten years experience with Basecamp , I initially didn’t like Tread , but that’s because I didn’t understand it. Now I love it , in particular its ability to store in Collections.
However , there is no facility to input start times or times of necessary stops , into route planning . That was a useful feature available with Basecamp.
Useless app
I do not know what I am doing wrong. I plan the route in the application, but in the Garmin zumo xt2 the route is shaped completely differently. I would really like to know if anyone at Garmin reads the customer feedback.. I'm not sure if they would recommend the Garmin zumo xt2 to anyone.
Tread app. Useless
As many others have commented I bought an XT2 as it seems a premium product. I’ve come from using TomTom to this and am regretting it. Planning a decent long route on an iPhone is ridiculous. The Garmin support shows things like the adventure mode and shaping tools. Not on my version of the tread app and it’s the latest version.
I downloaded the XT2 instructions and that pays lip service to actually plotting a route. Global company with lots of resources. Come on Garmin, you customers deserve better, much better.
Seriously Garmin do you hate your customers?
I am having the most torturous experience just trying to pair up device and make a tout using your software.
It’s so badly optimised and convoluted.
I seriously don’t know how you get away with it.
All leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I will NOT be buying another Garmin device 100%
Unbelievably Bad
It is hard to believe a global organisation like Garmin can release a product like the XT2 and software like the Tread and Explore apps.
In my opinion, as a designer of web sites for many years, there is absolutely nothing sensible, logical or intuitive about this Garmin range of products.
A complete waste of $700. I will sell as soon as I get back from this trip.
Come to 2024 Garmin
It’s impossible for a company like Garmin to offer such a bad user experience. I bet that some old school IT minds at Garmin do not allow UX/UI designers to do their work properly. “That’s the way we’ve always done it” is the usual explanation and I’m in the innovation space far too many years to know what keeps companies behind the curve. Garmin, educate your workforce asap or become obsolete in the recreational B2C space
Utterly illogical and pointless
What a waste of my time and money! Bought a new XT2 at the premium price specifically to hopefully benefit from Tread App route planning via mobile phone or iPad. Completely inept, why would Garmin do this to us!! 😡
Pathetic
I spent £540 on the Zumo XT2 and you need to use Tread in tandem. It won’t display metric, it keeps saying can’t calculate route. The volume on Zumo is too low to hear when riding and maps in my area way out of date. I’m back using google maps as it’s so much easier to view and use. Customer support were useless. What a waste of money. Really disappointed.
The app stopped supporting zumo xt2
Initially it worked great then it’s started playing up. I contacted support! There is 5 min of my life I will never get back. He / she send me a link to trouble shooting! What good is that when it does not cover the problem…. Garmin Tread App developer HELP WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. Nothing happens and I end up doing the route planning on the XT2! One of the reasons I purchased XT2 is the ease of route planning using the app on a mobile phone.

The Garmin Explore route is currently being converted for use with the zümo XT2 device.
Try starting navigation later.
OK
Just awful
Buggy, rarely connects to Zumo XT2, constantly getting messages saying can’t determine route even with basic faster routes on main roads, today it won’t even load the main map screen. Come on Garmin, I’ve paid a lot of money for my XT2, this app is diabolical. It’s the same with the cycling software, must be the same developers and testers. Please use the same rigour your aviation software team use to develop and test software, just because this isn’t mission critical like your aviation software doesn’t mean that you can’t apply the same principles of quality and robustness
