The Authy app generates secure 2 step verification tokens on your device. It helps you protect your account from hackers and hijackers by adding an additional layer of security.

 - Secure Cloud Backups:
   Did you lose your device and get locked out of all of your accounts? Authy provides secure cloud encrypted backups so you will never lose access to your tokens again. We use the same algorithm that banks and the NSA use to protect their information.

Twilio seems to keep this app on life support but has not bothered to update it as iOS progresses. I’ve lost my Today widgets and they never integrated with the systems OTP support. They also took away all ability to migrate away to another platform, so it looks like I’ll be logging into a lot of accounts to re-setup 2FA in the near future. Ridiculous.

I’ve been using Authy for 5+ years and was disappointed when they disabled the Desktop app. They prevent you from exporting your TOTP tokens to transfer to another service. Avoid Authy.

Loved that this app had a widget for easy access to codes throughout the day.  The widget is no more and it’s really just another authenticator now and a bit more of a PITA.

Não baixem! Se você apagar o aplicativo e a pagar por exemplo o Instagram e baixar novamente você perde o acesso. Tentei entrar várias vezes nesse app a para tentar pegar o código para o meu Instagram e eles falam que eu não tenho acesso, mandam eu ir para o site. Mas o site não tem assistência nenhuma.

Short story: I wanted to change the phone number from Account A to the phone number attached to Account B (which was annoyingly automatically created by Authy to begin with). Authy system says it can merge the two Authy Accounts. I continued with the merge. The only thing that merged over was the secondary connected device. None of my backed up Tokens merged over. I can’t help but feel sick to my stomach.

Update: A Crystal with Twilio noticed my Tokens hadn’t synced over. She did something on the backend, and all is good again. It was a matter of me logging back in again.

I originally chose Authy because it had a desktop app. Yes, there are reasons why that can be a bad idea, but for many, the risk of getting their phone stolen and locked out of all accounts is a greater risk. But if they don’t want to maintain a separate app, whatever, you can always just install the iOS app on MacOS. Except nope! They prohibit that now too. They don’t need to make that an officially supported option, just don’t prohibit it

Official Support couldn’t help me recover my tokens.
Had to restore the original phone from backup, then turn off network to restore my tokens manually.  Soon as there was network, Authy would wipe the tokens since the old phone number account shouldn’t have anything anymore.

Don’t bother using Authy anymore.  They keep un-supporting platform after platform.  First, they eliminated the desktop version.  OK, you could still run the iPhone version on your Mac.  But now, I upgraded to a new machine only to discover the app no longer works.  It’s only a matter of time before it stops working on iOS as well.  I advise everyone to abandon using Authy
