## Tydlig Description
Calculators have changed very little since the 1970s - while phones from that era look ancient. Why should calculators cling to a 40 year old design with a wall of buttons and one row for results in the age of retina displays? We deserve something better. Tydlig brings the calculator to the next level for iPhone & iPad with innovations like freeform canvas, responsive results and linked numbers. 

Tydlig is perfect for calculating everyday things like tips and discounts, showing the entire history and allowing you to change any number with instant updates. For deeper calculations real-time graphing is an excellent way to explore and visualize things like bank interest rates and trigonometric functions.

Features: 

* Responsive results: Edit any number on the canvas and see all results update automatically. Let your calculator work for you, not the other way around. 

* Linked numbers: With a result selected, press any operation to create a linked number below. Responsive results will cascade down these links. 

* All history is stored on an infinite scrolling canvas. Drag numbers around and reuse them as you wish.

* Annotate any number with an attached text label, like a freestyle spreadsheet.

* Real-time graphing: Link numbers to a graph and any change to the expression will instantly update the graph. Perfect when trying to explore how functions work and behave.

* Use the Slider to tweak any number and see results and graphs update in real-time. Combined with the graph it is an excellent way to visualize and teach math. Tap the slider to toggle between discrete and continuous modes.

* Share the entire canvas by printing, or exporting as a high quality PDF. You can also copy calculations as text, or save the visible area as an image which can be used in other applications like Pages or Word.

* Undo support.

* Supports external Bluetooth keyboards for really quick digit and basic operations entry (+, -, *, /).

### ***** "Easy, amazing features"
This is the perfect calculator for professionals who often do back-of-the-envelope math. 100% deserves 5 stars, but there are some more improvements I’d like to see.

First, the positives.It has robust features - like stringing formulas together so that any changes will cascade through. This is the only calculator app I’ve seen that is useful in the real world.

That said would like some more settings (like ability to select significant figures instead of number of decimals). Also I don’t find the select curser intuitive, (like changing previous formulas or number often breaks the formula).

I’ve used Tydlig for years (still can’t get the name right though). Nothing else I’ve ever tried comes close to the interesting ways to use it. Before I would open Excel just to get some calculations but this lets me do all kinds of connected calculations and change any numbers and see the changes. But still simple enough for a basic calc.

Love this concept! 
Needs to support multiple pages before I would regularly use this app. 
UI needs some refinement. Tough to add tags/labels to values. Labels don’t auto size or wrap well.  Showing a cursor on a new line would be nice. Adding an opening parentheses at the beginning of an expression doesn’t seem to work.

This is the best app for years. Never try to search alternatives for that. You will not find any. Just install and try.

UPD: We need at least one update. The app crashes at iPhone 15 Pro with no reason on the launch. Please, keep the app updated and polish some bugs! The app is still the best on the market🫶

Calculator reimagined indeed! Brilliant. It’s the only calculator I use now on a daily basis.

Most apps simulate the functionality of pre-digital technologies—e-books whose pages you can “turn,” e-calculators whose buttons you can “press”, e-canvases on which you can “paint”, and so on—but this app uses the digital medium far more creatively, in several ways. 

The first is that it allows the user to link the components of any calculation to the components of any other calculation, to move those components freely around the work surface, and to change the value of any of those components at will. Any change in a component is immediately reflected in all the calculations that share that component. In this way, the app functions like a spreadsheet, but without the rigidity of rows and columns of cells. Tidy lines and arrows indicate what is connected to what, and the ability to give each component a label that travels with it wherever it goes makes it easy to see what the inputs and outputs actually mean.

The second significant innovation is the app’s graphing capabilities. These will seem strange indeed to anyone used to thinking of graphs as representations of equations like y = mx + b, or f(x)=log x, because the app has no way of explicitly representing variables or functions. Instead, if the graphing option is selected from a menu associated with a calculation, the app graphs the general function of which the calculation is a particular instance. This works well, but surely takes some getting used to.

Some other comments: 

As many other reviewers have noted, while the work surface (“canvas”) is of infinite extent, there is only one surface. There is, therefore, no way to save one set of calculations and start a different set of calculations without creating a cluttered workspace. 

The function set is good. It includes factorials, a random number generator, and a modulus operator, none of which appear reliably in most calculator interfaces. But it does not include reciprocals, or permutations and combinations. It does include a question mark, which appears not to be an operator but rather a placeholder for a value to be supplied by the user at some future time.
 
Tydlig is quick, elegant, flexible, ingenious, and wonderfully practical. I hope its developers receive the encouragement they have earned, and that they keep adding to the app’s power and usability.

This is the best calculator I have ever used—truly a masterpiece! It’s simple, incredibly functional, and brilliantly designed. The ability to modify values and see real-time updates in dependent formulas is just amazing. You can make changes to one variable, and all related calculations adjust automatically, making it incredibly efficient for error-checking and corrections. Instead of redoing entire calculations, you only need to find and fix a single mistake to get the right result.

The only feature I would love to see added is multiple pages—perhaps five or so—where different calculations could be organized separately. This would be especially helpful for recurring calculations, avoiding the need to scroll back and forth or delete and re-enter data.

Despite this, I’m still giving it five stars. This is hands down the best calculator I’ve ever come across. Absolutely brilliant!

### ****- "Nothing else comes close"
Update 10/27/24: It’s a brilliant app and virtually indispensable in my work as a delivery driver. That said, it would seem that it appears to be abandoned by its developers. I’m running it on an iPhone XR, but I fear that if I trade this phone in then I won’t be able to run the app on an iPhone 15/16. 
There’s nothing else like it. I keep hoping SOMEBODY will update it….or rescue it from obscurity/copy it so that those who love it will continue to find use for it.  

Original: (Perfect) For what it does, yet... there's ONE more thing that could make it better. 1) The workspace issue. Give the user multiple tabs, multiple screens, multiple whiteboards, etc. There's no limit to how awesome this would be for us. Constantly moving around/erasing equations is difficult. Trying to relocate them again is problematic. Give us multiple whiteboards, this gets SIX stars.

The app is the best calculator for iOS I’ve ever used, but it’s starting to lose its features to age. No more sliders, copy/paste is broken, selection is broken, among other errors that crop up the longer it goes without an update. I hope it gets an update one day.

### ****- "No Updates, Still Great!"
The app has not been updated in 6 YEARS, but it's concept is still EXCELLENT and is my favorate calculator app BY FAR. I do with the developer would respond to requests and make a few updates, like make strings of calculations savabled as an editable canvas to seperate them into tabs to help organize and retain complex strings of calcualtions that you may just need to change on variable in. And also make the screen able to be zoomed in and out to see full strings of calcuations.
