How to apply on the UK ETA app
1. Take a photo of your passport.
2. Scan the chip in your passport.
3. Scan your face.
4. Take a photo of yourself.
5. Answer some questions about yourself.
6. Pay for your application.
It should only take 10 minutes to apply.
You do not need to enter your travel details.
Before you start
To apply you will need:
• an iPhone 8 or newer with IOS 16 or later
• the passport you will use to travel to the UK
• a credit card, debit card or Apple Pay
• access to your emails
If you're applying for someone else they must be with you. If they are not, you should apply online at: https://www.gov.uk/electronic-travel-authorisation.
If you need to travel soon
You must apply for an ETA before you travel to the UK. You can travel to the UK while waiting for a decision.
After you apply
You'll usually get a decision within 3 working days, but you may get a quicker decision. Occasionally, it may take longer than 3 working days.
If your ETA is approved, we'll link this to the passport you applied with. You must use this passport to travel to the UK.
Privacy and security
The app is safe and secure. No information is stored on the app or your phone after you close it. You can delete the app after you have completed your application.

Hat alles super funktioniert und ich habe sogar am selben Tag die Rückmeldung erhalten, dass meine ETA genehmigt wurde.
Alles perfekt und schnell
Hat ohne Probleme mit dem iPhone 14 funktioniert. Bestätigung ist nach einer Minute angekommen. Sehr gute App.
Erstaunlich schnell
… und effektiv. Kann die schlechten reviews nicht nachvollziehen. Alles hat beim ersten Versuch geklappt, klare und übersichtliche Anweisungen.

Ich muss sagen, ich war zunächst abgeschreckt von der App Bewertung und wollte es lieber Online machen. Aber die offizielle Seite gov.uk hat auf diese App verwiesen also habe ich es doch über die App probiert und es hat auf anhieb alles reibungslos geklappt.
Umlaute!
Bin immer wieder an der Eingabe meiner Adresse gescheitert. Die Zeile 1 wollte die App nicht akzeptieren. Bin erst durch eine Rezession drauf gekommen, dass es an der Mühlgasse liegen könnte. Mit Muehlgasse gab es keine Probleme mehr. Vielen Dank an die Kommentierenden!

Frustratingly narrow and chaotic and unnecessarily expensive
This app may suffice for the standard, individual visa application — but as soon as you step outside that narrow scenario, it collapses. There is no clear guidance on what to do if you cannot or do not wish to use the app, which is a serious accessibility flaw. More critically, the app becomes borderline unusable when applying for family members. The user flow for a child applicant is absurd — as if the toddler is expected to fill out their own details. The interface is clunky, unintuitive, and clearly not tested against real-world user needs beyond the “ideal case”. And to add insult to injury, the application comes with a €20 fee — significantly more than what a British national pays to visit the EU, where short-term stays are visa-free. It leaves the distinct impression that EU citizens are being unfairly charged for a digital process that’s barely fit for purpose. In short: the app is as chaotic, limited, and unhelpful as the Brexit process that made it necessary.
