I hired freelancers on Upwork, but then I ran into an issue: there was no live support agent. An AI agent responded to my concerns, and when I said I wasn’t satisfied with the way it treated clients like me, my account was suspended immediately.

This is terrible—and honestly terrifying—because we share sensitive information with the platform, yet it can block clients without any explanation. I paid freelancers, but I have not received the project, and after Upwork blocked my account, it feels like my payment was taken unfairly.

I will use another, more accountable alternative. Don’t trust the platform with your sensitive information.

This is the second time I’m being scammed of my hard earned money from Upwork. As a small business owner, I’ve relied on this platform to hire freelancers but it’s the second time that Upwork is siding with freelancers to do away with my hard earned money. I’e spent over $15,000 on this platform but today I am cancelling my account. They wouldn’t let me cancel my account and when you try to contact them there is just no way to do so. I NEED YOU TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT AS I WILL NO LONGER BE USING THIS PLATFORM again. When you make it extremely difficult to reach you it’s because you know you’re not dealing a clean business. Otherwise why reuse to cancel my account and why can’t I reach you?

Freelancers from lower-cost regions, such as India and Pakistan, often submit numerous proposals at even lower rates — sometimes over 20 for the same job — creating a race to the bottom. This situation is unfair not only to professionals from higher-cost countries but also to those in lower-cost regions, who are being exploited by businesses seeking unrealistic outcomes for minimal investment. The platform should implement better segmentation by region or market standards to ensure fair and sustainable pricing for all.
