Description

The Utah Air application employs Utah Division of Air Quality's new air quality alert system that consists of action alerts, represented by three basic symbols that signify the voluntary or mandatory actions (e.g., carpooling, wood burning) the public needs to adhere to the current pollution levels, and health guidance, based on the EPA’s Air Quality Index (AQI) that helps determine how the highest pollution level of the day will affect people with various health conditions.
Utah residents can check into the app daily to know when not to use wood and coal burning stoves or fireplaces, the best times to exercise outdoors, or make one consolidated trip for errands based on current conditions and trends. The three-day forecast can help individuals plan ahead to adjust their travel plans or work schedule to avoid adding harmful emissions during winter inversions or during the summer Ozone season.

Buggy app

ThereAreNoMoreNicknames on

This app has become really buggy, and often crashes upon trying to open it. I keep having to delete and re-download it. The main screen frequently doesn’t accurately reflect current conditions, I always have to go to the trend charts to get a more reliable view.

Lacks clarity; not user friendly.

I downloaded this to determine when I can use my fireplace. The display seems to give conflicting information, and the three-day forecast includes the current day, and the prediction for the current day (bottom of the screen) often does not match the symbol for current conditions (top of the screen). Generally speaking, in good with technology and I am an excellent reader, but this app seems to require scientific understanding that is not common knowledge and is not explained in the app. All I really want is a simple, “Yes, you can use your fireplace now,” “voluntary restrictions are recommended,” or “No, don’t burn thing right now.” I’m also not sure which location is nearest my home. There are several stations in my county, but most are named after I-don’t-know what. Only one station name is a city name that is familiar to me, and one location literally says, “near road,” for a county that is a major metropolis.

Unreadable areas of screen

Nurse KC on

On iPhone Good, moderate, bad instructions are permanently superimposed over the three day forecast area making both pretty unreadable. Screens alternate from portrait for most of the app to landscape for trends which is awkward. On android the temperature and wind speed are only words, no actual values. Needs work

Great app, not sure what the reviews are about

Would be cool to get a widget if possible for my home screen

App Crashes Every Time

I’m able to open it to the Salt Lake Rose Garden. If you try to work it in any way it crashes.

It used to work.

I’m not sure what happened. Latest version update greatly reduced usability on my iPhone. Some screens are locked in portrait while others are landscape. Lost all my selections. It’s definitely a big step backwards.

Handy if a little clunky...

2020 update: back to one star because if you don’t give full time location access it stays stuck on the launch screen with “Loading Stations” and nothing happening. This is with iOS 13.4.1 2019 update: glad it's available and working again. Not liking the request to use location even when app not open. Also: why no stations in Provo??? Original review (June-December 2017): crashing on launch for me. Not liking the non-standard navigation elements and charts sometimes were extremely distorted.

Stopped Working

sej638 on

United States

I do not use location services on my devices, and this app stopped working with the latest release. I think it’s because the new release wants location data instead of allowing me to use the app to choose the stations I want to see. I’m going to stop using the app rather than change my settings even though I once liked it. Sorry...

No ozone trend graph in June? Come on, you can do better than this!

I appreciate that the app lays out the data in a simple easy to check layout. However, I also expect the data to be seasonally relevant. So why do you only provide a trend graph for PM instead of the trends for ozone? Yeesh!

Great Upgrade

I really like the new interface. It’s more streamlined and looks more modern. The info we need is right there, easy to find. I’ve used this app for a number of years. The information is great, but it’s not always been stable. It’s also often been hampered by air monitoring stations that go offline. Hopefully the new version will be stable, and hopefully the stations will remain active. Thanks for providing this.
