The alternative methods to login in, such as text messages, have known security issues.  The VA and its software engineers have not implemented Face ID across mobile devices OS.  Apple phones appear to the most problematic.   This has been true for other government agencies.  Understandably agencies invest in developing software for the most popular systems such as Android and Chrome browsers.   They appear slow if not ignoring addressing issues with other more secure IOS and browsers.

The VA app is honestly much better than I expected. I actually find it easier to navigate than many of the VA websites. Overall, it’s a well-designed app, but there are a few improvements that would make it even better.

• Appointments: There is a section for appointment notes, but it is often left blank. It would be helpful if clinics included a brief description of the reason for the appointment. I’ve had multiple appointments within the same clinic for different issues, and knowing exactly what each appointment is for would help avoid confusion.

• Updating Personal Information: It would be extremely useful if veterans could update or correct their personal information directly within the app instead of having to use other systems or contact the VA.

• Messaging:
1. It would be helpful to have better access to the provider directory. I’ve often thought of questions after an appointment and wished I could send a message directly to the provider who treated me or performed my testing.
2. It would also be nice to view message history beyond the current one- to two-month limit. Having access to older conversations would make it much easier to reference previous discussions and instructions.

• Hospital Maps (Big Wish): This is probably my biggest wish. An interactive map for each VA medical center that shows clinics, departments, and provider offices would make finding appointments much easier. At my VA hospital, locating the correct clinic can be frustrating, especially when offices move. A regularly updated map with navigation would save veterans time and reduce unnecessary stress before appointments.

Overall, this is one of the better government apps I’ve used. These improvements would make it even more useful and improve the experience for veterans who rely on it regularly.

I have been waiting nearly a year to get a referral to community care for dental. The first time I followed up with VA, I was told by Ms Ross to contact community care again because the referral was submitted. Now the last couple of times, she saying she had forwarded my concerns to the doctor. I just need a referral to community care!
