Description
Vinegar is a Safari extension that replaces the YouTube player with a minimal HTML video tag.
It removes ads, restores picture-in-picture, and allows videos to play in the background when set to audio-only quality.
Note: The phrase 'can read and alter webpages' in the permissions section is just an unfortunate choice of words. Vinegar needs access to the webpage to find the YouTube player and replace it. It's not doing anything creepy!
(Also, do check out Vinegar's companion app, Baking Soda. It's essentially a less powerful version of Vinegar, but it works on all websites except YouTube.)

Funktioniert genau gar nicht!
Habe mich jetzt mindestens eine Stunde damit herumgespielt, alles so eingestellt wie angegeben, Safari xFach geschlossen, Cash gelöscht, aber die Werbung wird noch immer angezeigt…
Sehr gut!
Erweiterung funktioniert gut. Muss jedoch YouTube in mobiler Ansicht zwingen. Außerdem hoffe ich auf eine Möglichkeit den Audiotrack einstellen zu können, bzw. den originalen Audiotrack zu hören.
100% Fallback
Every single YT video I start viewing is displayed in fallback mode, meaning I am back to the original YT mode with all its limitations. Only when reload the page the mine HTML player manages to override. Waste of money.
aktuell funktionsunfähig
nach dem letzten Update von Youtube (Stand 10.12.2023) hat Vinegar keine Funktion mehr. Mit aktivierter Erweiterung ist das Nutzen von Youtube daher aktuell unmöglich.

Works basically
Does what it tells you. Only thing I noticed is when watching f.e. Instagram reels via the browser with every swipe my phone gets hotter and hotter. I don't know if there's some cleanup not happening or just not possible. Sooner or later my tab with Instagram freezes. Would be nice if they could fix that to.

Money well spent. Lots of updates as developer is always working on keeping up with YTs latest changes
