There are a huge number of movie formats, and VLC can convert most of them - but it can't convert everything. If you have any doubts, then please try the free version of this application first.

The app is good at streaming, which is worth 4 stars.
However recent version started having poor audio as if compression was pushed too far.
One significant drawback with this app is the mediocre file search.  It is too basic and leaves at browsing directories, and remembering your favorite locations.  
Otherwise, a pretty cool app which is still my favorite.
