I like having a "word of the day" such as this, which provides both a widget and daily notifications.
The layout is clear and uncluttered as well. There are few ads, but there is the option to upgrade.
But it's pretty egregious to have caught several clear misspellings, and with no built-in feedback mechanism to address it.
The words are also randomly plural, or singular, past tense, present tense, etc. etc. I would appreciate consistency.
Some of the words are so common as to be nearly useless unless one is an ESL learner, while others are so anachronistic or esoteric as to be essentially useless for both writing and conversation. Dead words, mere curiosities, unless one is researching vocabulary for a historical period story setting.
However, I'm sure it wouldn't take too much for the devs to address these issues if they care to do so. So I'll keep it for a few more months and see what happens.
Some recommendations
1) I know of many vocabularies already, but I’m not good at applying them in writings and in conversations. I want to learn to write stories better, and be able to express my ideas more precisely and accurately-reflective-of-my-thoughts in daily conversations. So more exercises to improve on those two aspects would be greatly appreciated. That is, on top of teaching us vocabularies (memory exercises), also design more exercises that would train us to apply them more naturally and regularly. I don’t want to just know them (as stated, I already memorized quite a bit of vocabularies), I want them to be “a part of me,” that they’re the words that I go to when I need to communicate something, be it through writing or speaking (habitual application of those learned words). 2) On another note, is it possible for the example sentences given to be pulled from public domain literature or better yet, classics? I don’t just want to KNOW these words (memorization), but how to USE these words (application), especially how to use them to make my writings more beautiful.
Kept adding push notifications
The app kept adding notifications on its own. Every day it would switch on to remind me about a “streak” and I’d have to turn it off, to repeat again the next day. App is all right but this bug made me have to delete it.
Not a rich enough dictionary
I have been using the app for a couple of days and have already come across the same words several times. Also, if you already have an advanced vocabulary, you will likely find the words offered in the app to be too simple. I would pay for the full version if I believed that it would be worth it, but based on my experience thus far, it wouldn’t be.
Best decision I made to improve my vocabulary.
This app downloading it will allow you to speak more freely with higher capacity for expressing your thoughts and emotions.
Nice app
I love how it doesn’t have adds and it’s simple and easy to use
Pronunciation of word no longer working
Please fix
Bugs
The widget for it works for a few months and then stops running again
SOME BUGS NEED SQUASHING.
There is a bug with some of the phrases where it shows you the word and it’s definition, and then it says a completely different word when the speech button is pressed. This occurs about once in every 14 words. Overall, this app is amazing, and I would definitely recommend it to anybody. There is just a small bug that needs to be fixed.
Ps. Please add a ‘report a bug’ feature inside of the app! Thank you!!
