Great VPN but app needs improvement
Long time user (5 years +). Overall satisfied with the VPN. Many different countries and locations within the USA to choose from. Many different security settings to choose from. Their WireGuard® is innovative tech and seems to work well most of the time. If you don't like it, simply switch to OpenVPN. If one server is flagged and the site you are trying to access is blocking you (eg Netflix) simply try a different (perhaps less used) server. App is not perfect, but I have learned how to make it work for me. Just updated to V3.12.1. My primary gripe for at least this and the last phone update is that after connecting to a PIA server the app will not always display the "VPN IP". I have learned that unless an actual VPN IP ADDRESS appears, even if the VPN "power" button inside the app itself is "ON" (indicating that the VPN is currently connected to a PIA server), and "VPN" (ON) symbol appears on my phone next to the wifi bars, the app is not necessarily connected to the designated PIA server! (Annoying) ....and so when that happens I have to resort to using a web browser to check my IP address to confirm that I am actually connected to the designated VPN server. Another issue I face on a regular basis is having to select Settings on my iPhone to ensure the "VPN" is "Connected". If I wake up my phone, open PIA, select a server, select the PIA connect (power) "ON" button, and see on-phone confirmation of the connection, yet sometimes (or, all the time?) I still will not be connected to the server until I go to my iPhone Settings and "look" at the VPN connection status. When I look at the status it will then automatically change to "Connected". (I realise this could be an iOS or iOS settings related issue, but it has been happening for at least the last few PIA versions on my phone) Then, I have to go back to the PIA app to make sure I did not lose the connection I had just selected. Basically, I find myself working hard (a lot of phone tapping) just to make sure I am connected sometimes. The earlier days of the app allowed me to simply open the app and within a few seconds I was connected. These days, between switching between the app and iPhone Settings, and having to sometimes hit the PIA connect button multiple times, or use a web browser to ensure the connection, it could easily take me 20 seconds to ensure I am connected.
