This game is an amazing learning tool. I’ve been using it for a few days and I can’t wait to keep playing and learning. I hope it gets updated with new material soon! As for me, I already had some Japanese knowledge before playing (I already knew how to read Hiragana and Katakana, and I studied some vocabulary and grammar using Genki). I think this game makes learning the kana fun, but I would advise reinforcing your learning through other materials (such as Tofugu). Nevertheless, I didn’t know any Kanji, and Wagotabi excels at making you learn Kanji and new vocabulary. Everything you learn is used in the game at the moment, which helps with the immersion. The game forces you to read in Japanese and use the new grammar and words you are learning, which makes the learning much faster and very rewarding. You feel a constant progress in your Japanese journey. Please, support this game! I’m really looking forward to the next updates.
This is a pretty great game, the first language learning game that I actually found fun, but the audio isn’t working for me. It worked my first time playing but now there’s just nothing, I checked my volume, Bluetooth, and in game settings, but there’s just nothing. Edit: oh my god right after writing this review I tried flipping the physical “do not disturb” switch on my iPhone and it unmuted the game audio. Why????? Why would you make it work like that? Please change that 😭
This game is amazing, I haven’t gotten super far into it and I already know hiragana and am learning Katakana and some Kanji. This is a perfect addition for anyone looking to learn Japanese and add a little bit more fun into it. Plus it is teaching you super useful things, like immersion but a couple thousand dollars cheaper and people won’t judge you and start speaking English when you didn’t catch what they said the first time in Japanese, you can just replay it and get instant visual feedback with kana and explanations.
One of the best developed learning Japanese RPG games I’ve played so far. Please download and support this game and developer. Can’t wait for them to add more content to this game ! Thank you for your hard work!
This app is fantastic! It makes studying feel like playing a game, which is awesome. It’s definitely for beginners. I’m not a beginner, but I’m still having a great time. I hope they add intermediate and advanced levels in the future.
I’ve been playing this on and off, and I absolutely love it. I’m already (kind of) experienced with Japanese, mostly using duolingo. I’ve played the demo on steam and I loved it, so I got this one finally. It’s super good, I love it. I’ve learned stuff duolingo didn’t teach me at all in the earlier lessons. What I think I really love is how it introduces kanji. It doesn’t give you the reading and then randomly introduces the kanji and hopes you remember, it gives you the kanji and reading at once. And it only gives you the kana that you need for those words so you don’t have to memorize all the other ones you don’t need yet. I’m in love with this app, I really recommend it. It’s helped me a ton.
This game does what so many other learning games wish they could do. It makes learning fun and isn’t super stressful. The grammar explanations for the particles are clear and easy to understand. I love that I can try to rephrase sentences over and over until I get it right without being punished for it. This game really feels like the perfect balance between learning the language and having fun. Something that I thought was impossible to achieve. Absolutely excellent work devs!
I was going to wait longer to write this review, but I got too excited when after just playing two times this game, I was able to distinguish and read some hiragana and kanji characters in an instructional booklet that came with an item. I need to say that what I love most about this game is the repetition of recently learned hiragana and words. A lot of japanese learning apps just present to you a new concept and rarely bring it up again. How are you even supposed to learn like that? But also, I LOOOVE the realistic scenarios in which you learn to form sentences. Not only that, but you actually want to go back to this game, it doesn’t feel like a chore, it’s actually fun. I’m using Wagotabi, at the same time I’m using Renshu, and it’s a great way to reinforce the content, but also I’ve found both apps complement each other really well, they teach differently but also fill in the gaps for one another. These $5 bucks were really well spent, my respects for all who worked in such an amazing game, I can’t wait to see more content being added, I’d gladly support this project!
I have ove 30+ apps of Language Learning, some are games but this one is SO DIFFERENT, I PLAYED 9 HOURS OF THIS GAME IM ADDICTED. It gives me nostalgia of Pokémon mechanics and immerses you so well, it’s like a word puzzle game adventure. I started and didn’t put it down for 4 hours that’s how engaging and wrapped up this game is. I can’t wait for more updates. I think this game is revolutionary.
