Warhammer 40 Reviews

A poor experience

Missing Legends units and everything is behind codex paywalls so this app is unusable for me.

Voisi olla hyvä, mutta ei ole

Kuukausimaksullakin kaikki hyödylliset tiedot jää vielä edelleen toisen maksumuurin taakse..

Good for rules

but unfortunately, older units are not present: no bike squads for marines, no ravenwing talonmaster. Essentially, the legends are missing. The app is good for fast rule checking and reference finding, but you can only play/create lists with units from the latest edition of the game.

Sad excuse of a service

Up until the codexes started coming out, the app was actually decent, if a bit clunky to use. But now step by step all the army info will be lockd up behind a pay wall - and the monthly subscription will not lift that wall, only buying the 50€ book will give you visible rules - for a single army. You can use it to see the latest point cost, and build a single list - that’s helpful I suppose. There are better list building tools available.

Subscription model - for real.

”Annual subscription” - pffft. Avoid!

A poor experience

Unfortunately every time the points update, the whole app needs an update as well. This means there’s a significant delay and the app’s content isn’t as up to date as it’s marketed as. But what’s even more annoying is the fact that there’s no way to export your list into one document that contains all units and their rules. Now you have to click every unit open one by one, and even then click open separately ranged weapons, melee weapons, abilities, keywords, etc. I ended up printing my own index cards as that’s way faster and more user friendly way of playing 40K. Sad. EDIT: Two weeks since Legends points were released, yet still not updated to this app.

Free Version is virtually useless

Only usable if you have your codex either handy or memorized. Data sheets are redacted on free and you can only make 1 list. Just use BattleScribe or literally any other free list builder

RULES FOR EVERYONE

Why do I have to look at my opponents phone or codex to see the rules of their units? And now with the ever changing rules and datasheet updates, even the physical codexes have become obsolete. We’ve gotten to a point with this app where books are not necessary anymore. I would be more than happy to pay a discounted price to just receive a digital copy of a codex and receive access to the rules in the app. The paywalls in your app have also recently led to controversy in one of your largest 40K competitive events! Imagine if some of the 6 players that lost to the Tacoma “winner” were able to see the rules in the Ork section of their app. Rules need to be readily accessible by both sides of the table!

It’s ok

I love the idea, but I have thoughts on how to make it much, much better. 1. The ability to clone lists. It takes a ton of time to add equipment, and being able to duplicate a list to make a slight change would be huge. 2. Don’t lock list building behind a paywall. We’re already paying for models, paints, accessories, and books. That can’t pay for a list builder? 3. Ability to purchase a digital-only codex. I’m paperless. Don’t need another paper book that will be obsolete in a year or two. Plus it can be cheaper since there would be no physical overhead. 4. Better yet, make all the rules free. See #2 above. Ignoring some of the above complaints, this is a decent app. Thanks

Aside from Games Workshop’s greed, app is great!

I loved using this app for army building and for playing games of warhammer, it was genuinely the best tool they had offered as you had access to all of the rules at a moments notice and could build armies on the fly, which made games way more fun because it streamlined the process so much. But the monthly subscription that you need to make more than 3 lists + all the money you spend on their miniatures isnt enough for Games Workshop, in order to access ANY army rules, you have to own the $60 codex for that army (which used to be almost worth the price because of all the lore and character descriptions, but is now just a $60 rulebook for each army), effectively making it so that using this tool means you have to spend an additional $60 PER army. Absolutely atrocious business model from Games Workshop that only seems to be getting worse with time. I can only hope they come to respect their fanbase and customers within my lifetime, but that seems unlikely at this point.
