104.9 FM AND 1050 AM WFSC is the heritage community radio station in Franklin/Macon County, North Carolina. With a full-service format that focuses on local news, sports, weather and community events, WFSC has a unique relationship with its community dating back to 1957, when WFSC signed on the air as the first radio station in Macon County and the first broadcast voice in far western North Carolina. Broadcasting 24 hours daily, 7 days per week, we’re Franklin’s First Voice – WFSC. The WFSC format consists of heavy local news and information focused on the residents of Macon County, North Carolina. The emphasis is always local. CBS News is heard at the top of every hour. Local News is heard at 7:06 a.m., 8:10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 5:04 p.m. North Carolina News Network five minute update of local, regional, state and national sports is heard weekdays at 6:25 a.m., 7:25 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. WFSC is the station Macon Countians can depend on for up to date and accurate weather information. Weather forecasts are heard at :05 and :40 past each hour and regular programming is interrupted for emergency weather information. WFSC’s most popular feature is the classified ads program, Tell It & Sell It, 9:06-10 a.m. weekdays, featuring WFSC show host, John Dunham and WFSC listeners. Hundreds call and thousands listen! The music on WFSC is unlike any format on any radio station in the area, AM or FM. This modernized version of the Oldies format delivers the greatest Rock & Roll hits from the 60s and 70s – and even select tunes from the early 80s. It’s contemporary, feel-good music, hosted by outstanding personalities who sound upbeat and fun. At the core of the WFSC’s music format are timeless artists like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Beach Boys and Motown superstars. To keep the format sounding fresh, you’ll also hear classic songs by The Eagles, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. The hits on WFSC appeal to the fastest-growing segment of Macon County’s population, the middle and upper income adult demographic, which is quickly making Franklin/Macon County, North Carolina one of the most popular retirement communities in the United States and one of the state’s fastest growing counties … and home to Franklin’s First Voice- WFSC. Coverage Area of WFSC broadcasts at the very center of the dial, 1050 kHz, with a Grade A signal and translated on 104.9 mHz, covering Macon County and much of Jackson and Swain Counties, including the towns of Sylva and Bryson City. The Grade B signal covers all of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and reaches the North Carolina communities of Cherokee, Cashiers, Robbinsville, Andrews, Hayesville and Waynesville. Clayton, Sky Valley, Mountain City and Dillard, in extreme Northeast Georgia, are within WFSC’s coverage area. The loudest and clearest modulated signal is maintained with the most modern broadcast equipment on Franklin’s First Voice- WFSC.
