Whale and Dolphin Tracker provides a platform where both professional scientists and members of the public can participate in research and conservation by contributing their marine wildlife sightings. By submitting your sightings you will add to a global database that will help researchers determine patterns of species distribution and how these species interact with their environment. Features: -Log sightings in real-time during your trip. -Use the built-in GPS logger to create a full GPS track of your trip. -Upload photos from your mobile device to submit with your sighting. -Maintain full access to your submitted data through your Whale and Dolphin Tracker account. -View global sightings submitted by all users on a live sightings map updated in real time. Contribute to research: -Crowdsourcing allows for a larger scope of data collection than what is possible for dedicated researchers to achieve. -Greater coverage in both time and space increases the likelihood of documenting rare and/or understudied marine wildlife. -Citizen science creates ocean stewards and leads to a greater awareness of marine wildlife. How to submit a sighting: - Use the app to record GPS location of any sightings of whales, dolphins, and other marine wildlife. - Help researchers account for survey effort by associating a track with each sighting. Simply start the GPS track when you depart land and stop the track upon your return. Complete GPS tracks enable calculations of sightings per distance and are valuable for research on distribution of marine animals. - Upload photos associated with your sightings directly from your mobile device. Photos will be used by researchers to confirm species identification and will be added to photo-identification databases, where applicable. ## Whale and Dolphin Tracker Screenshots - [Screenshot 1](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/0c/12/18/0c121860-54b7-d02c-f9ac-36d1e582b0ba/iphone-16-main.png/1320x2868.png) - [Screenshot 2](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/87/8f/1b/878f1b2a-3c38-3f50-f660-e26c32aa9a82/iphone-16-collect-data.png/1320x2868.png) - [Screenshot 3](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/3a/14/eb/3a14eb52-2237-cefd-f0bf-76e085d2f6de/iphone-16-select-species.png/1320x2868.png) - [Screenshot 4](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/d6/28/b1/d628b1a1-816b-e018-e9ad-2ecffb90688d/iphone-16-quick-match.png/1320x2868.png) - [Screenshot 5](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource221/v4/9e/eb/ac/9eebac29-575e-61fe-74df-e443a4236330/iphone-16-stats.png/1320x2868.png) ## Whale and Dolphin Tracker Rating Breakdown in United States - 5 stars: 7 (29%) - 4 stars: 1 (4%) - 3 stars: 2 (8%) - 2 stars: 1 (4%) - 1 stars: 13 (54%) ## Whale and Dolphin Tracker Reviews in United States ### ***-- "Is this App still supported?" Lots of bad reviews. Not sure if this was an Interns project years ago and has been left for dead since then. Developer reply? -- Muzak Genius, 2026-01-08 ### *---- "Not working in 2025" Not showing any Maui results in the Q1 2025 whale season. When deleting app and reloading: Won’t accept any user name no matter how many variations tried. -- kentrookie, 2025-02-23 ### *---- "Needs work" Too hard to put in a sighting or look at sightings near by. For some reason even if you allow the app to track your location while using it, it still says it does not have access to your location. Giving it access all the time is ridiculous. Next allow the user to drop a pin where sighting is. I was on shore and say dolphins swim by but now it looks like they were on shore. Next why do I have to select from a group of only your boats? Allow others like on shore, type in a name, unknown. Hopefully it gets help otherwise do not bother. -- cowboy41, 2023-11-12 ### *---- "Can’t see whale sightings in Maui" Since I travel to Maui multiple times a year, I like to track where they are seeing whales before I come. I downloaded this to see where whales have been sighted in Maui. Used to be able to see it on their website, can’t do that any more, so downloaded this app. It defaults to my land based home location (no whales ever here) and there’s no way to set the geo locator to Maui, so no way to see the whales being spotted there. Total fail on this app. -- HoJozcreations, 2023-11-01 ### ***-- "How do I go I browse whale sightings international?" How do I go I browse whale sightings international? -- Jprin wildlife, 2023-01-29 ### *---- "Too hard to use in the moment" We were surrounded by whales on our boat recently, and I tried to put an entry into the app, but there’s too much information that is “required”, it became time consuming, and I decided to not worry about it, because I was missing the whales! It would be nice if there was a “short” form version of the app, for users without all of the technical information, and then an option to include more information, if you choose. I wanted to love this app, especially as a new boat owner, but it’s not as helpful as I’d hoped, and too much to do to use it in the moment. -- Reensjp, 2023-01-20 ### *---- "Doesn’t work Can’t create account" Doesn’t work Can’t create account -- OldMauiDiver, 2021-12-10 ### *---- "Frustrating" Every time I click on setting up an account, it crashes. Great idea, but doesn’t work for me. -- Valkflash, 2020-11-24 ### ***** "Works great and is user-friendly!" I am familiar with this app from my time interning and volunteering with the Pacific Whale Foundation on Maui. I’m currently using it to document Wild Bottlenose dolphins in the Florida Keys, so anyone can use it regardless if you’re living on Maui or not. It works great and is very user-friendly, plus the data collected is easily accessible on my iPhone, iPad or computer! It’s a great way for scientists and citizen scientists to contribute to marine mammal research! -- Roadkingharley, 2020-09-13 ### *---- "Worthless or next to it" Perhaps you should reconsider naming your group and drop Pacific from the title. -- PS_pinstripe, 2020-01-13 [View all Whale and Dolphin Tracker reviews and detailed analytics on AppTail](https://app.apptail.io/signup?utm_campaign=ai-crawl&utm_content=reviews) ## Whale and Dolphin Tracker Discovered Keywords - whale and dolphin tracker ## Apps Similar to Whale and Dolphin Tracker - [OCEARCH Shark Tracker™](https://apptail.io/app/ocearch-shark-tracker-LPc/united-states) - [STC Turtle Tracker](https://apptail.io/app/stc-turtle-tracker-qIA/united-states) - [Animal Tracker](https://apptail.io/app/animal-tracker-utCc/united-states) - [Sharktivity by AWSC](https://apptail.io/app/sharktivity-by-awsc-NJMc/united-states) - [Aussie Bird Count](https://apptail.io/app/aussie-bird-count-SUad/united-states) - [Manta Ray Tracker](https://apptail.io/app/manta-ray-tracker-qmNe/united-states) - [Jellywatch](https://apptail.io/app/jellywatch-ZmNe/united-states) - [Chesapeake Dolphin Watch](https://apptail.io/app/chesapeake-dolphin-watch-yKti/united-states) - [SharkToothID](https://apptail.io/app/sharktoothid-wCQj/united-states) - [In-Water Sea Turtle Sighting](https://apptail.io/app/in-water-sea-turtle-sighting-AIHo/united-states) ## Whale and Dolphin Tracker Available In - [United States](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/united-states) - [Australia](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/australia) - [Germany](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/germany) - [South Africa](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/south-africa) - [Canada](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/canada) - [Switzerland](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/switzerland) - [Belarus](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/belarus) - [Cyprus](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/cyprus) - [Czechia](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/czechia) - [Denmark](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/denmark) - [Ecuador](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/ecuador) - [France](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/france) - [United Kingdom](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/united-kingdom) - [Greece](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/greece) - [Croatia](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/croatia) - [Hungary](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/hungary) - [Indonesia](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/indonesia) - [Ireland](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/ireland) - [New Zealand](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/new-zealand) - [Austria](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/austria) - [Belgium](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/belgium) - [Bulgaria](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/bulgaria) - [Bermuda](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/bermuda) - [Brazil](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/brazil) - [Romania](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/romania) - [Thailand](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/thailand) - [Taiwan](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/taiwan) - [Ukraine](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/ukraine) - [South Korea](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/south-korea) - [Kuwait](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/kuwait) - [Lebanon](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/lebanon) - [Sri Lanka](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/sri-lanka) - [Luxembourg](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/luxembourg) - [Malta](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/malta) - [Mexico](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/mexico) - [Argentina](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/argentina) - [Pakistan](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/pakistan) - [Poland](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/poland) - [Portugal](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/portugal) - [Iceland](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/iceland) - [Slovakia](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/slovakia) - [Barbados](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/barbados) - [Brunei](https://apptail.io/app/whale-and-dolphin-tracker-MCVd/brunei) --- ## About AppTail [AppTail](https://apptail.io) is a mobile app intelligence platform providing app analytics, ASO (App Store Optimization) tools, keyword tracking, competitor analysis, revenue estimates, and review monitoring for iOS App Store apps.
