Linguee is a new kind of dictionary app for French-English, Spanish-English and other language pairs. You will find reliable translations in the shortest time, even when you're offline.

SPANISH-ENGLISH AND OTHER LANGUAGES
Dictionary for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and many more. All dictionaries are bidirectional - you search simultaneously in Spanish-English and English-Spanish.

EDITORIAL DICTIONARY
Our editorial dictionary was compiled by over 200 lexicographers in order to be capable of providing answers to the most difficult of queries.

TRANSLATION SEARCH
Additionally, with the help of the integrated translation search engine, you have access to over one billion translations from the Internet. 

QUICK SEARCH
Translations of words and phrases are shown after entering just the first few letters. Even inadvertent typing errors are intelligently corrected. 

OFFLINE MODE
The editorial dictionaries can be downloaded for free and are subsequently available for use even when you're offline. This allows you, for example, to look up terms while you are abroad and have no data connection.

EXAMPLE SENTENCES
You will find examples sentences containing all the words you search for.

PRONUNCIATION
All of the dictionary entries have been recorded audibly by professional speakers.

3D TOUCH
With a light press (Peek) on autocomplete entries you will get a preview of the corresponding article. You can also Peek at a word will show you translations for the relevant words without leaving the article. Quick actions: You can open previous searches straight from the home screen simply by pressing the Linguee icon lightly.

This is my go-to dictionary in every language. However, there is a bug in the search bar; whenever you delete the old search to make a new one, the app automatically retypes the old search to the bar and then you have to erase the old sear again, which is really annoying. I hope you fix that

### ***** "fab when learning a language"
I used to use the website years ago to help with translations. Now I'm using the app for learning German, and finding it way better than a regular dictionary: I always get a translation (even when no hits in the (Oxford) dictionary), lots of definitions so always one I need, and the example sentences are just the best to see how a work functions in 'real life'. Fabulous. AND free!

Great app, the literary examples are a great addition to a language dictionary and it’s generally very intuitive to use. The search itself is usually fast, but can be a little slow at times, it doesn’t seem to always remember that it has downloaded libraries, and sometimes the downloaded libraries disappear and need to be re downloaded.

J’utilise cette application depuis des années pour traduire du français en anglais, j’ai sauvegardé beaucoup de mots traduits. Le seul problème c’est que des fois que je fais des mises à jour de mon iPhone, Je perds tous les mots que j’avais sauvegardé. Ce qui est dommage parce que ce sont des mots que je connais pas forcément donc j’ai perdu une partie de ma vocabulaire. mais c’est pas grave, parce que je continue à faire des listes des mots que je connais pas.

After looking up 3-4 words it starts to get laggier and laggier until it just completely crashes. Just leaving the app doesn’t fix it; you have to actually quit it fully in order to get it to start working again. 

Good job having to quickly look up multiple words is not a situation that happens often in every day life! 

It’s been like this for years so I doubt there’s any chance of them ever fixing it.

I wasn’t sure how well the idea of mixing the two languages together would work but it does. And the examples of usage are a great aid to better understanding the range and subtleties of the word/phrase in question.

Linguee is so useful for looking up words as multiple translations and examples are shown, and the UI is clean and simple. I use it almost daily for looking up German words. 

Unfortunately it seems that the app has been in maintenance mode for a while as it can be buggy. When switching to the app from multitasking, it often freezes. Most of the times I use it, I have to completely quit the app and open again.

Nonetheless thank you for a brilliant and indispensable app

This translation app is brilliant. It has a wide vocabulary and gives quotes where the word is used; therefore you understand more widely. 
It is also a very clever app, as you don’t need to set it for French to English,  or English to French. ( I use it just for this translation)  You just tap in the word and it is clever enough to recognise the language. Other languages are available. 
A Great help  for reading and writing.
