YNAB To The Rescue

Here is a sincere, honest confession. I thought budgeting was tracking where your money is spent. That is actually wrong, budgeting is having a plan for your money and actively managing to that plan. YNAB facilitated this mindset shift for my wife and I and we have never been more at peace financially than we are now. We give and save more more than we ever have in our lives after 16 years of marriage. This app is indispensable and should be used by anyone trying to get a handle on their finances.

Burdensome UI Changes

YNAB user for multiple years. I truly miss when the iOS app was purely for entering transactions on the go. The UI changes over the years have forced me into only using desktop. It’s now too many clicks to enter a simple transaction. I fear it will only get worse with time as I’ve never seen them back down from a single change based on feedback.

A bit Confusing

For the most part it’s great. But sometimes the balances aren’t accurate and the credit transactions double between 2 cards. But it’s probably me setting it all up wrong. Again, confusing.

Complex, but 💯worthwhile

Navigating the complexities of YNAB can be challenging at first. Paycheck categorization, overspent on past month, etc… But once you’ve figured it out you realize there’s no other system that gives you the financial piece of mind YNAB does. Our family is sold on it.

Why doesn’t the homepage sync with iPhone to iPad?

I would think my pinned, goals would be on my iPad synced. No? I have to set them up separate?

Helped me finally create a budget

Very good for month to month tracking. I wish there were better tools in the reflect section. Weirdly there isn't a way to track targets over time and seeing how often you go over budget.

Changed my life

I never write reviews. I’ve started getting educated on finances, YNAB has helped me make proactive plans for my money that feel aligned to what matters in my life instead of avoiding the subject or dreading it. It’s truly been enlightening and I’m very grateful for YNAB’s help.

YNAB has been helping with my budget since before I Retired. It has given me absolute confidence in managing spending.

Broken auto assign

I have been using YNAB for fifteen years and it was great. Now they changed the auto assign feature. I used to be able to auto assign the exact last month’s amounts to future months with one click. Now their “smart” system thinks it knows better and only assigns a tiny bit, not my full budgeted amount. Please return it to the old way.

Very overcomplicated, unhelpful budgeting too.

The bank connections were not accurate, making it impossible to “Assign money” which also makes no logical sense from a personal “cash based” accounting logic. Spent over an hour trying to set up my plan only to leave frustrated and resorting back to chatGPT and an excel spreadsheet. Do not waste your time or energy.
