YNAB FAQ
Is YNAB free?
Yes, YNAB is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is YNAB legit?
🤔 The YNAB app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
Connection for direct imports failed again. It happens, but customer service has been nothing but gaslighting and runarounds in figuring out what account types are supported. App gets better every day, but for this price I expect customer service to be more than fake friendliness and answer scripts. Very disappointed in the decline in customer service and no way to connect to a different rep.
Reconciliation
Could have been great, but it doesn’t import all transactions for initial expenses categorizing. It only goes back 2 days which defeats the purpose of avoiding initial data entry for me.
Do not like recent updates
We’ve been using YNAB for over 10 years. I do not like some of the recent updates to the UI, including the extra step of needing to tap “select” for multiple transactions. Please don’t fix what isn’t broken!!
Worst app for budgeting
This is the worst app for budgeting I’ve tried. Unfortunately I bought the one year membership. I used it for about 3 months and had issues with the format from the start. I thought I’d just give it more time but for me this is not a budgeting tool in any way.
Great App - Delayed Bank Imports
This is a great budgeting tool. If you take the time to setup your budget and create the habit of using YNAB to Malaga your spending, you will see results.
The biggest problem I see with the app is they it constantly disconnects from my bank (Discover) i perpetually have a message saying that transactions are delayed.
Credit card payment heck
I’ve been using this app for a little over a year and it’s honestly been incredibly helpful with budgeting and totally change the way I think about money. However, the way that credit card payments are handled is unbelievably obtuse. Makes absolutely no sense and every time I make a payment it takes about five minutes for me to go back into my budget and figure out how I did it last time where it should be completely automatic, it should be one button tap to say this is a credit card payment and it should figure everything else out. As soon as they fix this, I think this is a five star app.
Completely worth it
I’ve been paying for this app for a few years now and I have to say that it is truly the best system I have found for keeping our family on a budget. In the beginning, it felt like I had to “unlearn” some of how I thought about budgeting. But this system really helped me set my priorities, and I felt less constricted than on other systems. It felt more like I was moving and growing my money than limiting myself. It’s very flexible and convenient, and it’s proven incredibly helpful to us. I highly recommend it!
Honestly confusing
I’m not sure why an app that is supposed to help me with my monthly budget has to be so hard to use. Entering all my bills on was easy, but ticking them off each month is ridiculous! You can fund it, but then there’s no clear balance of what you have left in the month and there are WAY too many things that make no sense and no explanation for what they are or do. Waste of money and time. Looking elsewhere.
Don’t love this app as much as I used to
Update:
March 6, 2025
1 star added back to bring it to 4 stars. YNAB made the balances a persistent toggle so I don’t have to click another thing now to reconcile. Now each user can select how they like it. Thanks for adapting to feedback given.
—————————
I used to really love this app. It’s still got a lot of great features, but with the price increases to do useless changes, it’s getting frustrating. I don’t even tell people about YNAB anymore. The biggest straw for the 3 star review instead of the 4 star is having to click yet another thing to see the cleared balances on my account now. Feedback already submitted.
Amazing App
I love YNAB as it gives me a honest picture of my finances and allows me change old habits with their methods. I would highly recommend it. Don’t think about it, just do it.
