Every year thousands come to reach the top of at least one or to conquer all three in one go. The app contains route details for the classic 24-mile circular walk, route maps for the individual peaks, Whernside, Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough and four other shorter walks in the Three Peaks area. Don’t just come for the day, come for the stay and explore more of this spectacular area and its scenery. This GPS enabled app provides reassurance as you follow the arrow along your chosen route. It will also show you how far you are around the route. This app has been developed alongside our National Park Yorkshire Three Peaks Rangers who have added points of interest along the routes for you. The app also includes important safety advice and the code of conduct, which will help you stay safe on the walks and help protect our local communities. The app is not a mapping tool. You must take other forms of navigation with you and know how to use them. We recommend you have an OS Explorer OL2 Yorkshire Dales (Southern and Western) map with you. Using GPS tracking uses more of your battery than normal – do not rely solely on this app when walking. Always be prepared, conditions can change rapidly in an upland area such as the Three Peaks. You must read the safety information contained in this app before using the route information. The Yorkshire Three Peaks are very fragile environments, and the public rights of way network is under pressure from the hundreds of thousands of visitors that come to enjoy it each year. Maintaining the paths in the Yorkshire Three Peaks area costs on average £35 per metre. The proceeds of this app all go towards helping the Yorkshire Dales National Park with this work. Does more than I thought it would. Minor issues: Features - North and distance markers / grid not shown on maps Content - Ingleton is no where near the Horton-in Ribblesdale railway station as mentioned on the Inglebrough walk -- ascapella, 2023-07-20 ### **--- "Work in progress" So I did the Ingleborough route today, and it was correct. The directions are OK, and it is not the app developer’s fault the arrow has fallen off the crucial path signpost where Horton and Clapham walkers part company on the way down. I thought I had overshot the turning, and it was only in hindsight using Viewranger that I had definitely gone the correct way. If the route stated the footpath joined the Pennine Bridleway I wouldn’t have felt lost for so long. The app is a bit odd: -The graphics/buttons are from the iPod touch 2nd generation era. The use of buttons to link back to previous pages is inconsistent. -The Feedback button opens a box and lets you type, but you can’t submit it as it contains “invalid arguments”. -I don’t know what “Layar” is, but that doesn’t work either - it generates a security error message on a third party website. -The GPS functionality DEFINITELY isn’t in there. I’m running 12.4 on an SE. The arrowhead button on the map legend does nothing, and there is no entry for the app in Location Services. I had 4G reception almost all the way round too. -Once you click “Start” on the route instructions page you are taken to the map. It’s a nice touch that there is a stopwatch function, but 1)The distance doesn’t change (because the GPS isn’t there), and 2)If you want to toggle back to the text instructions you have to abandon your timing, which then resets when you “Start” again. It’s worth £2.99 at the moment, just. It NEEDS to be brought up to date, to match the website. -- Ukusertryingtopostreview, 2019-08-24 ### *---- "App doesn’t work" Downloaded ios version for iPad. Location services does not work - the app doesn't even have a setting entry for this and your location doesn't appear on its maps, nor are you told when POIs are near. The augmented reality views look great on WiFi but at the top of Pen-y-Ghent mobile data was too slow for them to work so it was a waste of time.
