Watch out for payments!
Somehow I have 2 accounts , I pay for one and I canceled one………but I can only access the one I canceled. Figure that!
Update. I have taken the time to contact the helpline and good a very good responding person, who understand my dilemma and taken the right steps to get me my money back and also canceled the automatic payments.
Great but Expensive
Excellent site/app, very comprehensive information and easy to use BUT membership costs are not affordable and some features that used to be included are no longer accessible without a full membership :(
Need my son’s results
I literally found a birth father & new half siblings through ancestry, so I couldn’t be happier! Although I’m STILL waiting on my son’s results many, many weeks after sending in his test?? His results were meant to be emailed to me. Who do I contact about that please? May King
Not great
The biggest problem with this app is the search function (specifically within dna matches). You can type in an exact match and yet it wont show up (I’ve copied and pasted into the web version and the match will appear). Considering the whole ancestry thing relies on searches this is an absolute disgrace. It has been this way for a very long time and is a consistent problem. The app may be convenient, but it lacks the functionality, and more importantly the accuracy, of the web based version. It cannot be trusted. Best to avoid.
Ancestry Subscription Too Expensive
To subscribe to Ancestry is too expensive and one shouldn’t have to pay an excessive amount to access their own family information!!!
Unscrupulous genealogists and family historians
I have moved my family tree to unsearchable (and private) because of 2 people, Anne Young and Karel Bezuidenhout.
Anne Young messaged me out of the blue and she is NOT connected to anyone on my family tree. She has a photograph of my grandfather, Francis George Baker in WW2. Just one photograph. She wanted information from me as she is researching the people in the photograph for her blog. She copied information incorrectly from FamilySearch that I had put in about personal details of my grandparents, not even asking permission before putting it on Wiki. Only when I corrected her did she remove some incorrect details.
I added the family of Francis George Baker to Wiki and within a day she complained that I hadn’t added enough sources to my great grandfather! She continued to pressure me to work up to her speed so that she could take my information for her own use.
So I have blocked her.
Karel Bezuidenhout wrote me as deceased on FamilySearch so that my overseas family thought I had died suddenly. He is another so called genealogist/family historian. He’s not connected to my family and copies things incorrectly so I have blocked him as well.
Ancestry is fine if you have American connections which I don’t have! So therefore it has limited relevance for us. Which is why I now have the membership I have.
App needs work
If you update on the website, sometimes it will not update on the app.
The app on phone is clunky and glitchy. Please fix.
Can’t afford
Too much take out my account to afford time closer Christmas I cant afford not happy jan
Disappointed
Had my dna done several years ago and as much as I would love to become a member I do not have the funds. In saying that I use to be able to access so much more for free which made it so exciting. Now I can’t even say my mums sister is my aunty unless I am a member even though she also did her dna and we match. You can’t do anything anymore without being a paid member. Makes me more interested in doing my dna with another company that isn’t so money hungry
Confused
I find it difficult to understand
How a match is listed as 1st to 2nd cousin (same as her daughter) but then a little further down is said to be possible half sibling. I think she is half sibling but I can’t be sure with the way it’s listed.
