Spaced repetition is an incredible way to make things stick. Anki is the king of that. The recent addition of FSRS as an in-built algorithm has really helped keeping review numbers down and retention sky-high. The go-to answer when asked ‘name an app worth paying for’, and for good reason.

The simple reality is that there are no flash cards better than flash cards you made, and there’s no better cross platform service for that than Anki. They deserve your money.

The only flash card memorisation app you’d ever need.

So for one thing, it can play ogg files. This is frustrating as a lot of open source sound productions use ogg to avoid any sort of copyright issue. I assume adding the capabilities would bloat the software a little bit, but imo it’s a trade worth making. The other thing is that sometimes it struggles with more advanced card formats. I use one with a few sounds, image, and code for pitch accent colour, and sometimes the card will come up with a big grey box. That said, even still the ability to do anki on the train is a game changer, so highly recommended

Anki is really annoying me I have spent hours typing my flashcards in anki only for the website to delete them every single time I type a deck of new ones I am fed up for this I want my money back and there is no way for me to contact their system

I should probably get around to reviewing it. Anki is so good there are dozens of knock-off clones of it and that's all you really need to know. The software is rock solid reliable. It is endlessly customisable. It's an absolute workhorse. My pro tip is make all your own flashcards. The act and effort of creating them is the first step in remembering. A special shout out thank you to Damien Elmes, who created this open source legendary software and has been its principal maintainer all these years.

Complicated to get used to and quite in depth but the best way to drill vocabulary or kanji

With an upfront one off payment, this is technically the cheapest of the iOS Anki apps. It does the exact same as the other ones, just a little uglier. Despite its dated appearance it’s still a powerhouse for spaced repetition, and I wouldn’t recommend another app over this one, unless you need your app to look pretty.

How the hell does anyone normal use this? So complicated for someone who isn’t a computer nerd. Total waste of money

It was quite expensive, yet didn't help as much. I have found much better apps.
