I joined as a way to rebel against the banning of TikTok, but I stayed because of how welcoming the Chinese are. The developers wasted no time offering English translations to help English speakers feel welcome as well as opening a way for us to be able to communicate with one another across the world. The newest feature even shows the country the poster is from, which opens up a whole new dialogue amongst users. If you’re wondering what the interface is like I would describe it as a mixture between TikTok and instagram. You can scroll videos for a “fyp” experience or search by interests. There are still some things I’m learning, but if nothing else it has pushed me to learn a new language. Despite what happens with TikTok I plan on keeping the app.
