3D Painting Software

ArmorPaint is a software for PBR texture painting. Import your 3D models and start painting. Receive instant visual feedback in the viewport as you paint.

Node Based

Work fast with the convenience of nodes. Paint with fully procedural materials. Build fill layers with material nodes. Use brush nodes to create patterns and procedural brushes.

GPU Accelerated

ArmorPaint is designed from scratch to run completely on the GPU. This results in a smooth 4K painting experience on your iPad.

Baking

Bake texture maps for high-poly models instantly on your iPad device. Hardware accelerated ray-traced baking is available on supported iPads. (M1 or newer, A13 or newer)

Path-Traced Viewport

Paint models in a viewport with true light simulation. Path-traced viewport rendering is available on supported iPads. (M1 or newer, A13 or newer)

after exhaustively looking throughout the App Store for any software that comes close to what ArmorPaint does—the only considerable second, yet inadequate by comparison, remains Procreate—lacking support for PBR Textures. (i'm grateful enough for its 3D Model support in the first place tbh.)

i've been using this INCREDIBLE app for only a month or so now... and the rate of development the project is moving at has been truly heroic, as well as promising. investing into it now—mind you, while it's still going for a humble price—there's no doubt it will very well become thee standard for all-inclusive workspaces supporting 3D painting, PBR texturing, UV un/masking, etc.

the ONLY bug my *entry-level* [2021, 9th gen] iPad had trouble handling was semi-frequent crashing while executing multiple jobs; however, this was on a 64 GB model. after upgrading my physical storage, i haven't experienced any crashes thus far. to be clear: it's not even a Pro model.

concisely put: if you're looking to have a proper 3DCG workflow on your iPad, you will need a dedicated PBR applicator. ArmorPaint remains the only app capable of fulfilling this task, now in Alpha. support this indie dev, remain patient & pragmatic while in Alpha, then to enjoy having access to streamlined workflow all on a single device.

Great improvements on how navigating and move objects. There’s still issues where the app can’t reposition objects that are not placed in the center of the world, like Nomad. Also unnecessary complicated to start painting.

Armor Paint may be rough around the edges currently, but I bought it to support the awesome work the devs are doing. I’m amazed at the quality apps that exist like Nomad and Cozy Blanket and I’m cheering for Armor Paint to fill the missing piece of texturing on the iPad! Excited to see this app grow. I agree with the other review that the devs should take too heart how Nomad and Cozy Blanket have innovated and brilliantly used the iPad touch screen, gestures, and Apple Pencil to make creating and editing intuitive and fun. A clutter free user interface is a must too.

The touch controls are awful, they need to be more like Nomad Sculpt, Forger or Procreates. 
The app is incredibly buggy and crashes constantly.
The UI and workflow is confusing when it does work. 
Now that we can do retopo and UV’s in cozy blanket having a true PBR texturing workflow would be amazing but as it stands this ain’t it. 
I’d stick with procreate and nomad for texturing. Nomad can export vertex painting, normals and more.

This so for has been an ok experience, 100% not the best but this is I think better than what is on iPad for this such thing at the moment, I can only hope it gets better with future updates, I don’t know how to delete files without a keyboard which is a big problem, I didn’t see an option to separate the meshes by the material they use like substance painter, but this is only version 0.8 and I’m hopeful it will get better and better with every update! ^w^

Really crashy on a 2021 ipad pro. UI is unintuitive. Moving the model around is ridiculous and shouldn’t require tweaking settings to adjust the camera speed and sensitivity. Can’t pick colors right out of the swatch? Unless there is some roundabout and not obvious way to do it? Smart concept, but dang, that UI and stability is hurt.

I have this program for my MacBook and happily paid for it twice to have it for my iPad to support the developer. However as it is right now for the iPad is unsatisfactory. I really hope the people at ArmorPaint fix it for the iPad.

Constantly crashes. The autosave plugin does not work, saving in general may not work at all - I haven’t been able to save anything before a crash. I’m rooting for this app but it’s not ready for release and needless to say the price is outlandish given that a near flawless app like Nomad Sculpt is a couple bucks cheaper. Please fix and I’ll come back and update my review

Giving this app 3 stars now and when more optimizations are added will add more stars. First off the navigation is wonky. You can’t really navigate smoothly around the character to paint on it. There is nothing letting you know that your cloud materials are being loaded. This is bad because when you drag a material into the layer panel nothing happens and after the materials finally load then something happens. This causes the user to drag multiple materials and stall out the program. 

There is a huge visual bug when leaving a project and starting a new one. Also the program seems to not work after starting a new file. 

This still has a long way to go and maybe think about lowering the price to 9.99 0r 12.99. Yes this app is one of a kind but it’s rushed and not tested properly for this device. I’m on an iPad Pro I have minimal lag but there are too many bugs to use this seriously right now. Good luck and keep working. If you nail this this app will make you a multimillionaire.
