The Better Duolingo

The Babbel Lion on

Zypern

The best app to learn a language. Much better than Duolingo. I enjoyed learning French. It was fun and effective. However, just to help Babbel to improve, I would recommend to add Asian languages, such as Mandarin, Korean, Cantonese, Japanese.

Good app, but with an important drawback

Nick Kapatais on

Zypern

Been using Babbel for 20 days and I’m generally pleased with the learning process and the material. I can say with confidence that I’ve learnt a lot in the short duration of 20 days. However, my main issue is that the app isn’t aligned with the browser based version. Specifically, if I’ve learned 100 words, for example, through the browser I can review ALL of those words as many times as I wish at a click of a button, but through the app, I can’t. To review those 100 words or phrases through the app, I literally have to add them one-by-one to a list Babbel calls “Collections” and review them from there. I’m obviously not going to select each item one-by-one and add it to a list so I can review. This is important to me because I don’t always have access to a computer so I need to revise on phone. I should at least be able to select multiple items and add those to a list, but it has to be one-by-one. I’ve also purchased a 3-month plan but if I can’t use the app, can’t see myself completing the 3 months. Furthermore, I’ve spoken to Babbel about this and their answer - of course very professional and polite - was basically that that’s how the app works and not only that, in a few months the browser version will follow suit. So, short tip for Babbel: What we see on the website, is what we expect on the app for a seamless experience. Some of us want to frequently review everything we’ve covered so far and not just items the Babbel engine has added in a separate list with mistakes. That aside, if somebody isn’t into such constant reviewing like I am, Babbel’s good.

While the courses offered are well structured and provided you devote the time and effort, your knowledge of the language chosen will be improved, be warned that Babbel will keep charging your credit card without any prior warning or notification. This is not good business practice and in our opinion unacceptable!

How could I have $299.99?

Lily Noah123 on

I wanted to learn French for fun but when I was going to do the other lessons they were ALL locked? I think I’ll download another app or just stick to Duolingo. Welp I hope you see this!

They are pricing out the middle class

Ddort on

Vereinigte Staaten

The app is great. They also offer live classes. Last year they offered 12 months of 1-on-1 classes for $468/yr. This year they have raised the price to $1800/yr. They only want language classes to be available to the rich.

Having to pay

Dulingo is better on

Vereinigte Staaten

I can only do the first language practice then I have to pay for it. When all I want to do is do it for free. I recommend Dulingo, everything is free and you can learn a language fast and in an easy/fun way.
