I have little to no issue with the way it works, apart from the way that it absolutely prevents parents from managing their kids’ content on the kids’ own devices. There is no app designed for smaller kids. The app is rated 12+, and they recommend you just fiddle the age settings on your kid’s phone/ipad in order to allow them to use iplayer. There is also no way to set up/access *only* a kid’s profile - you have to sign in as an adult and then set a pin to stop your kid from switching profiles (which is a one-tap job) and accessing your own shows rather than theirs. All the CBeebies content is age-tagged so that it can be filtered for a child’s profile, yet there’s no way to access this for younger kids without allowing access to all apps for under-12s. So to summarise, on an ipad being used only by a small child, I have to set the screen time age restrictions to allow all apps rated 12+, sign in with my own profile in order to access my child’s profile, then set a PIN to stop my child accessing my content rather than CBeebies, and (to prevent them downloading other apps in that category) also lock down access to the App Store so I have to approve every download just in case my child accidentally tries to install something meant for older kids. And all so that my toddler can watch Teletubbies/Number Blocks/Hey Duggee. It’s also a problem that having done all of that, there is no way to exclude specific shows from the recommendations my child gets within their profile (Baby Jake can get in the sea, for example) - I’ve never used another media app where there is no “don’t recommend” option for specific shows/channels. I want to be able to say “don’t recommend that” for the more irritating options until my child is big enough to understand that mummy and daddy will snap the iPad in half and throw it in the bin if they have to listen to that sodding theme tune again. So this app is stable and works pretty well for adults but in the absence of a dedicated BBC app for small kids, it’s a nightmare to use effectively for the whole family. -- Redcore4, 2024-12-28 ### ***** "Great App and the Best Drama" The app is great to use and navigate quickly ans smoothly. BUT the complete lack of subtitles on Apple TV is unacceptable. BBC claims "technical challenges" prevent this, yet Channel 4, ITVX, and Netflix all manage subtitles perfectly on Apple TV. Suggesting deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers "use another device" is not a solution - it's an exclusion. If other streaming services can solve this, why can't the BBC? For an organization that champions inclusivity, this needs urgent fixing. So yes nearly 20years later the bbc chooses not to bother with subtitles. Also Apple have introduced “enhance dialogue” you would think at least that would work. But no.
