Boat Beacon benötigt einen Internetzugang, um funktionieren zu können. Die meisten beliebten Küstenbereiche verfügen über einen mobilen Datenfunkzugang, der sich auf 12 Meilen oder mehr ins Meer hinein erstreckt. AIS-Schiffsdaten werden über ein Netzwerk an freiwilligen küstenbasierten AIS-Stationen bereit gestellt. Einige Bereiche verfügen allerdings eventuell nicht über diese AIS-Abdeckung.

Wohlbemerkt: Es handelt sich hierbei nicht um einen AIS-Transponder. Sie werden für andere Schiffe auf deren AIS-Systemen nicht sichtbar sein, es sei denn, die Schiffsführer nutzen Daten der gleichen landbasierten AIS-Netzwerke wie Sie.

iPhone oder iPad mit Kompass und GPS.
Internetverbindung.

Sie können Boat Beacon ohne Verwendung der AIS-Übertragungsfunktion nutzen. Die AIS-Übertragung erfordert gültige MMSI-Nummer, die zugewiesen wird und dann auf den verschiedenen AIS-Kartensystemen erscheint. Mit dem AIS-Übertragunsmodus haben Sie allerdings Zugang zu einer besseren AIS-Schiff-Abdeckung (3-fach).

Bitte beachten Sie, dass die dauerhafte Verwendung des GPS im Hintergrund die Batterielaufzeit erheblich verringern kann.

NICHT ZU NAVIGATIONSZWECKEN

Dieses Programm wird in der Hoffnung vertrieben, dass es sich als nützlich erweist. Boat Beacon sollte nur zur grundlegenden Navigationsreferenz verwendet werden. Keinesfalls sollte das Programm allein zur Bestimmung exakter Standorte, der genauen Lage und Entfernung sowie Richtung verwendet werden.

Auf Kleinbooten eine gute Ergänzung.  Interessant ist die Möglichkeit (Abo notwendig), die AIS Daten via Wifi auf anderen Geräten und Apps (Navionics, OpenCPN …) nutzen zu können. 

Hatte bisher 2x sehr gute Erfahrung mit dem Support.

Leider ist die Boat Beacon App nicht zu gebrauchen, da sie beim schließen und wieder öffnen abstürzt, zu mindestens auf meinem iPad. Auch lassen sich die Boote beziehungsweise Schiffe nicht in der Boating App anzeigen. Leider muss ich von dieser App abraten.

Ich habe die App als Ergänzung zum aktiven AIS verwendet, um Infos zu Fahrzeugen in der Ungebung abzurufen und die Konstellation auf der „Karte“ (Apple Maps) zu sehen. Die Funktionen sind wirklich super, aber manchmal hinter einem etwas gewöhnungsbeddürftigen GUI versteckt. Zum Glück hat mir der sehr hilfsbereite Entwicker alle Fragen sofort beantwortet.

wohne an der Elbe und befahre den Bereich Hamburg und flußabwärts. Verkehrstechnisch ist die App hier besonders hilfreich und auch informativ. Die Daten sind sehr genau und leicht verständlich. Mit der Suchfunktion konnte ich zunächst nur Schiffe mit einer MMSI finden aber nicht die mit der BBSI. Nach der Fehlermeldung per Email mit Steve Bennett wurde dieser zügig und freundlich behoben. Das nenne ich Top Service.

Bisschen teuer, aber schöne App. Mit der Kompass-Funktion kann man die einzelnen Schiffe anpeilen und so erkennen.

Zwischen St Goar bis kurz vor Mainz bekomme ich die Schiffe auf dem Rhein nicht angezeigt trotz das da Radar Stationen und aus Stationen sind wohne am Rhein nähe Bacharach wäre interessant auch dort die Schiffe zu verfolgen

Nutzte marinetraffic-app zum Empfang von AIS-Daten und mAIS zum Senden der AIS-Daten. Als ich Boatbeacon entdeckte war ich froh eine 2-in-1-Lösung gefunden zu haben. Leider entspricht BoatBeacon nicht ganz meinen Erwartung in Sachen Stabilitaet und Nutzbarkeit. Nachfragen beim Support blieben bisher unbeantwortet. Deshalb nutze ich bis zum evtl. Update die beiden o.g. Tools weiter und ärgere mich 8€ rausgeworfen zu haben.
