## Dark Reader for Safari Description
Dark Reader is an eye-care Safari extension that enables night mode by creating dark themes for websites on the fly. It inverts bright colors to make web pages high contrast and easier to read. Dark Reader integrates seamlessly with system dark mode.

Adjust brightness and contrast to match your display and ambient lighting. Enable dark mode on every web page or give websites a sepia tone. Select from multiple color theme presets or create your own by customizing background and text colors. Enable or disable Dark Reader for specific websites, automatically sync with system dark mode, or detect already dark websites and leave them unchanged.

Developed by the original creators of Dark Reader. Since 2014, we continuously evolve alongside modern web technologies to deliver fast and reliable dark mode support for people sensitive to bright light.

This is a very nice dark theme extension, probably the best in terms of theming and customization, and it's nice that it's a universal purchase across all apple platforms, but until it has site list sync, it's a non starter for me. Having to repeatedly whitelist the same websites over and over across ipad, mac and iphone is a huge pain. 

Will be trying out noir, despite its higher costs and seperate purchases for Mac and ios.

The hotkeys don't seem to work consistently and the toolbar icon is way too distracting. There needs to be monotone icon in keeping with the Safari standard.

It does work well however. Use it if you can tolerate these two issues.

V2 resolved most of the issues that plagued the extension in pre-v2, still doesn't match parity with the chromium version but it's back to being a top-contender as a dark-mode extenstion for Safari, good work devs.

[Pre-v2]
Worked great when it first came out, updates to safari over years has made the extenstion very buggy and unreliable. Efforts were made to reach out to the developers a couples of times with no response; Extenstion is long overdue for a update to fix a magnitude of issue.
(Should be noted that issues are related to MacOS safari exclusively, mobile app is fine)

The MacOS Safari extension for Dark Reader lags far behind the feature set available on Firefox, Chrome, et al. It also rarely gets updated. As of July 19, 2023, the extension has not been updated in over a year. This is not great, especially because the Safari one costs money, while the other ones are free; those ones get updated almost weekly.

What's up with this? I'd rather the extension not be available than pay for a gimped version.

I paid for this, and it's now broken on half of the websites. It's no longer maintained by the developer. It's now worse than the free Dark Night app, which is pretty good and is based on the same open source project DarkReader. The official one is dead, the developer forked the project, took the money and ran away.

This is one of the best dark more apps for safari but I would love it if the devs added a feature to allow the app to switch on and off depending of the time of the day (day or night) for us users who always have our phones on dark mode, but want to see webpages in their original format during the day.

### ****- "By far my preferred dark mode extension"
For iPad, the one annoyance I have is that the extension stands/pops out too much in the tab (Safari compact mode for me). Perhaps Safari on iPadOS does not allow an extension to appear transparent nor a placement option right next to the sidebar icon instead, but a slicker icon would be much appreciated, or better yet make an option to hide its icon. If it weren’t for that I would rate it 5 stars like I did for the MacOS version.

Works very nicely on my M1 Mac. Lots of useful settings, shortcut options etc. After a morning where it felt like my eyes were being burnt out, this was a great purchase to bring the darkness back to my screen.
