G7 app better than receiver

Diana De R on

Kanada

I had to purchase the receiver bcuz my iPhone was a 1st generation SE. unfortunately the receiver only gathers info for 1 day. I have since upgraded my phone and I love being able to input notes, etc. However I find that inputting meals doesn’t work well, but that’s an easy fix. As well, yes, please increase the hours for pausing Alerts.

Terrible

Terrible, support is usless, full of bugs, notifications are WAY to loud and it makes my phone run like absolut garbage, Dexcom you better fix this app

An unreliable failure and far from an upgrade

I have so many problems with the g7 constant sensor failures, multiple times where the sensor just peels off, inaccurate readings, the list goes on and on, these devices are absolute garbage and my insurance only covers the g7, why would you create a new device only for it to be a downgrade in quality from the g6?, in my honest opinion the g7 needs to be taken off the market until it is fixed, has further testing done and is actually safe for diabetics to use, this device hardly gives me any peace of mind and causes me so much wasted time and stress dealing with sensor issues. Time for dexcom to get their act together.

Step backwards

Upgraded from the G6. The G7 is great when it works, but it doesn’t work more often. Been a few months and haven’t had one sensor last the full 10 days. Have had to reinstall the app several times because calibration gets stuck, sensor fell of after taking a shower, have had to purchase 3rd party over patches, readings jump up and down within minutes, false highs, false lows, upper arm location is very difficult place as it keeps getting stuck in clothing or gets bumped (painful). I think the only reason to have it there is so it’s visible and good for marketing. The adhesive is so small that they had to add on over patch as a cover up, it still sucks.

Awesome

I don’t know what it is about medical technology that makes people grumpy. This app always works phenomenally for me.

Few suggestions…

The app works well for me although the last few days of a sensor it’s over dramatic all the time even tho my blood sugar is stable. I would love to be able to customize more the alerts cause they are super annoying esports with headphones and speakers. I would love to be able to put in a different schedule every day since I’m a student. Also it would be great if I could monitor my sensor placement history to make sure I make a great rotation of sites. I love that there is a option for a widget but it never shows my blood sugar, only an empty graph so… The obvious part of monitoring the blood sugar is fine but the programming of the app isn’t great tbh.

Failed sensors + false alarms

G $/!!,$828’ on

I’ve gone through 4 failed sensors that haven’t even lasted me at least more then 3 days!!! The false alarms at night especially are REALLY annoying and scary in a way. What I mean by scary is, one night my g7 was saying I was low, when really my actual sugar levels were high. If I had taken juice, my sugars would’ve spiked even HIGHER!!!!! I must say, the Dexcom g7 is much more comfortable on my arm, but that’s really the only pro I can name!!

Oppressive

You know what’s great for helping to keep your endocrine system in good order and your blood sugar levels consistent? A good night’s sleep—which I haven’t gotten since switching from the Dexcom G6 to G7, thanks in full to the new G7 app. The app’s abuse of the notification system feels downright oppressive. It doesn’t matter how many times I calibrate the sensor, the app indicates false lows frequently overnight (my doctor says it’s an issue that Dexcom is familiar with and that their rep refers to them as “compression lows”). The app’s refusal to work unless “critical alerts” are enabled in iOS settings is myopic. Dexcom knows its results aren’t accurate. That’s why they state that the sensors are not a replacement for glucose tests. So why enforce critical alerts? I just want the CGM for general trend analysis to help me fine tune insulin delivery. The app, in it’s current incarnation and with its present level of accuracy is absolutely, by no means deserving of a critical alerts entitlement. This app never should have gotten through app review. The critical alerts are heart-stopping in their level of obnoxiousness and they’re impacting more than just me. My spouse flew out of bed ready to scoop up our kids up and flee from a fire at 4am when one went off the other night and then couldn’t fall back asleep thanks to the adrenaline rush that induced. My *actual* blood sugar level when I tested that night was 4.8, the night before when it went off it was 6.5, this morning when it woke me with a start at 4:10am it was a perfect 5.0. I’ve been woken by false alarms every night this week except the one night I had the foresight to revoke notification permissions for the the Dexcom app before heading to bed. I’ve tried to work around the issue and automate things with Focus Modes or the Apple Shortcuts app, but it’s futile. There’s no way to automate the silencing of critical alerts, no way to customize the sound or sound level, and the app refuses to function with them turned off—rendering the widgets useless and throwing up a big red screen obfuscating access to any of the app’s functionality until critical alerts are turned back on.

Works well!

After reading the reviews I thought, oh no, should I have stuck with the freestyle libre. This app has way better alarm features that suit my needs. I don’t have diabetes, however have postprandial hypoglycemia since losing 210 pounds. As such my sugars drop extremely quickly and being able to calibrate my alarms has been critical. I often silence my alarms, but since I don’t get symptomatic until my sugars drop below 2.7mmol/L, I needed to know when I was dropping quickly. The app works well for my needs. The only issue I had is the first 24-48 hours of a new sensor, dexcom tends to have lower projected values. Given that this system measures interstitial blood values and not blood sugars a lower projected value is expected. I would not recommend using a cgm value for insulin dosages, however it is amazing for monitoring trends and seeing how your body responds to food.

Better than G6 but still awful

knatty on

Two steps forward, one step back. G6 got one star, so I guess I’ll give this one two. The alerts seem to work ok for me, but I hate being unable to use an Airplay speaker without the risk of blowing the speaker out if my sugar goes low. I also wish there was a way to see my sugar without unlocking the phone. G6 had it in notification centre, G7 somehow does not. On the other hand, G7 has a nice widget (although it doesn’t update in real time).
