As a Cybersecurity Professional - Just, No.
Took me three seconds - whenever I browse the App Store and check out an app, I skip directly to the “Privacy” section. Here you will find reports on data collected and stored.
With this application, there IS “anonymized” information collected on you.
I don’t know about you, but that is not up-to-par when it comes to my personal OPSec standards.
I would rank this on-par with the “Signal” app… Which also collects data.
However, the app “Session” is absolutely killing it.
NO data collected, no purchase required, no subscriptions (exposing your personal information), three tor nodes before it reaches your partner, where it needs to traverse another three nodes in order to reach your friend. E2E encryption. No log-in/sign-up, a unique identifier string is generated. This is your “username”, what you use to add others. Not your name, not your email, not a username tied to your email.
I don’t work for these dudes, don’t even know much about the project besides what I need to. However, I was literally THE ONE that convinced ChatGPT Session was a more secure application than the Matrix network or this application.
Although this isn’t a complete atrocity, perhaps reasonable for your average, privacy-oriented individual - if privacy, security, encryption, anonymity, and confidentiality is your TOP priority and you can handle waiting a couple of extra seconds for your messages to pass all of those nodes (takes about three seconds)… I would definitely explore Session. It checks nearly every box on the list when it comes to maintaining your utmost level of security while communicating online.
The developers did a fantastic job, a great example of: well, these guys did it with no data collected…. So…. Why? Why take that risk?
And, yes, I did test the app thoroughly. I’m writing an article and am forming a report.
Again. It’s not like a Kindergartener threw this together, it’s better than Telegram… But it’s lackluster.
I, as a professional, would not trust my security with this app.
No account creation
No account creation. Also, like most things this is NOT family safe. Threema is family safe. This is chat, as dangerous as discord, but uses fediverse.
Constant crashes
App opens then crashes after 30 seconds.
Continues to disappoint.
Just not a great app. Currently there’s a notification I can’t find or clear in “spaces” (which I have none) and it’s driving me nuts.
Also: I hate typing indicators. Let me turn them off.
Does not open (17 April ‘25)
App launches and then crashes or screen freezes. Please fix this.
Dear developers! After the update, it is not possible to call and it is not clear at all how to make calls. The old versions were much more convenient and understandable. Please fix it!
Job scam!
I received a message from Enovix Corporation to start a job with them and found out its a job scam. Do not download this app.
Overrun by bugs
A coworker recommended this app to learn about crypto and online currency from some chat rooms. Never used it before but I created my account and very soon after the app started shutting after maybe 10 seconds, it’s very annoying and it prohibits me from using it. If I could I’d rate this app 0 stars. They need to fix this because apparently there are some really great people with amazing knowledge using this app, which I no longer am able to learn from. Very very annoying. And ghetto.

The corporate messenger left an extremely unpleasant impression. To begin with, videos sent from the mobile version don't work at all — PNG images with the “play” icon just hang instead, but nothing happens when you try to play them. In the desktop version, the situation is no better: videos don't scroll, you have to watch everything in a row, which is extremely inconvenient.
UX/UI is generally a separate story. The interface is extremely inconvenient, everything looks cheap and overloaded, which makes it difficult to use. The desktop version doesn't help either, it slows down, responds with a delay, and looks like it was developed by students in practice.
As for optimization, it's just a disaster. The application is slow, freezes frequently, and issues errors. One of the most annoying moments is the voice chat window, which cannot be hidden. It's just disgusting — it's hanging on the screen, interfering with work, and you can't close it, which causes a lot of inconvenience.
In general, I am extremely disappointed with this messenger. Using such applications in a corporate environment is a real punishment.
