Not what it used to be
Sadly, it seems like the acquisition didn’t include some of the folks responsible for keeping Cloak (now Encrypt.me) in shape. There are now mishaps in design on both iOS and Mac clients, and bugs are always present. The most annoying being the app continually ignores my whitelist and turns on the VPN anyway when it shouldn’t. This used to be my absolute favourite app because of its user friendliness, but that’s no longer the case. There are, thankfully, other apps and VPN services that can do what this app is capable of but they retain fluidity. This app is rated 1 instead of 2 because, to me, while normally in the past prior to the acquisition this app easily gets a 5, it takes special talent to ruin the app to this extent. I’ve been using Cloak since its beta in very late 2012, but now it’s time for me to finally look elsewhere. It’s been an enjoyable five years using Cloak and it upsets me to have to leave it with a bitter aftertaste. I should also mention that I’m not a fan of the new name and icon — most especially not the horrifying Mac icon — but initially I was willing to let it go only as long as the known qualities of Cloak remained, but alas it’s been many months already and clearly it’s gone. Good luck, StackPath.
