## EyeTV Description

Easy Setup
There is no need to reconfigure your local Wi-Fi network. Simply activate the option "iPhone/iPad Sharing" in the EyeTV preferences. Sometimes, fully automatic configuration may not be possible outside of your local network. Please see www.geniatech.eu for details.
If you’re using the OS X firewall, be sure to allow incoming connections for both EyeTV and EyeConnect. EyeTV uses port 2170. If that doesn’t let you connect, try turning off the firewall and turning it back on again.

• Mac with OS X 10.6.8 or later
• EyeTV 3.6.5 or later with compatible TV tuner
• iPad Air, iPad (iPad 2 or later), iPad mini, iPhone (iPhone 4 or later) or iPod touch (5th generation) with iOS 7.0.4 or later

As I have found to my cost (and seemingly that of many other users given the very poor feedback) this app is not fit for the purpose with which it was intended. Like so many long-suffering early Elgato adopters I have found Geniatech’s approach to after-sales care on EyeTV devices lacklustre in the extreme and it is hardly surprising that little has been done in terms of maintaining app development either. I will be periodically checking on the progress, if any, of this item in terms of development but given that its last update was some 2 years ago would be inclined to give any Geniatech app a very wide berth for the time being.

It’s tragic what Geniatech have done to the Eye TV product since they bought it from Elgato. The iPad version no longer works properly. The new 64 bit version for MacBook doesn’t either. If you try to record, it doesn’t stop recording until your HD runs out of space!

They have no answers when you contact them - just reinstall it and try again!!!

Used to be a favourite and now it’s totally unreliable. I don’t think I’d pay for any further upgrades.

Updating my Mac to Catalina meant having to fork out for the 64-bit version of eyetv.
Unfortunately this doesn't play nicely with the iOS app: trying to open any recording results in a 'this recording has not been prepared for iPhone access...' error even when it had been prepared in the previous version of eyetv. Geniatech admit as much on their website. Therefore the archive is not remotely accessible. Total waste of money.

Used to be great but there’s now no way of advancing the guide to the next day. We use it to schedule programs on the TV upstairs but can only do it for the current day now. Please fix!

The Eye tv hardware connected to my iMac will no longer connect to my iPad through this app. Beware if you were expecting to stream to an iOS device.

Issues issues issues, since elgato sold eyetv the iOS/Mac apps are just going down hill.

Currently the iOS can't connect to the Mac OS app, and the Mac OS app does not auto sync to guide any longer.

This used to be a perfect iPhone and iPad companion to the EyeTV software, but I can't get the new version to display any schedules. It lists all the channels I have in my iMac setup, and it allows me to play them live, but I no longer get the schedules and can therefore also no longer order a recording on my iMac from my iPhone or iPad, which I could before and which was brilliant.
Hope they sort it out soon. Unfortunately the link to the developer website only takes you to a German "Under Construction" holding picture, so I can't reach anyone to complain to. May try via the iMac softwarr.

I’ve used this app for some years along with its OS X counterpart. Now this (IOS) app has pretty well stopped working. I can no longer get the remote access to work - it tells me it was unable to configure the router. As others have reported this problem it seems safe to assume that the problem is with the app, not with all our routers.

The other problem is that I am pretty well unable to set or cancel future recordings from IOS. It will work for some channels but not for others. I can set/unset them in the OS X app. It’s to do with the channel rather than individual programmes. Either i can schedule any programme on a channel or non. I have tried using a different account but this hasn’t worked.

These problems seem to have started recently since another company took over EyeTV from Elgato.

App connects and streams ok.  Although stutters quite often.

What bugs me more is the lack of epg data.  Cleared the database - twice!  Still no luck.

Worse still, no support since sold by elgato to Geniatech! Shame on elgato for allowing their product to fall into such poor care.

No forums no support just cut off.

Do not buy this or any other Geniatech product until they get their support sorted out.

### *---- "Disgracefully bad and grossly overpriced"
My own fault. I should have paid more attention to the other reviews here. I downloaded it and got it working over my home network. This worked sporadically for 24 hours, though streaming was appalling with much stuttering and stalling.

The programme guide only covers 24 hours, so is of limited use. If the Mac goes to sleep, it cannot connect to EyeTV. AirPlay works very badly (unlike Air Video Server which works fine) and video quality streamed to the TV is dreadful.

After 24 hours EyeTV decided that my router was unsuitable, and nothing I have tried since (and I think I have jumped through every hoop that Elgato have proposed on their ‘Support’ pages) has worked. Access would not work at all outside of my home LAN.

I should have been suspicious about the various qualifications to the ‘Easy Setup’ paragraph in the description. I wasn’t and so ended up spending money on something that mostly doesn’t work, and which, when it does, is unreliable and produces very poor quality video.

Elgato should be ashamed to put their name to this. If it was free, I would have been disappointed. At £3.99 it is an absolute rip-off.

So, please take notice of the reviews here and don’t waste your time and money like I did.

Using with UK's Astra 28.2 channels (Freesat), there are some problems:
* can't add transponders - channel configurations sometimes change, but there is no way to update the information. 
* BBC 3 & 4 HD channels return a 'video not supported' error message.
* also a problem with FTA stb's, HD channels for some reason are set to NAR sound as default (additional commentary for the visually impaired) - there is no way to switch this off. For the majority of viewers who do not need this commentary, it renders the HD channels useless.

I had great hopes that this app in conjunction with an EyeTV Diversity connected to my Mac Mini would provide satisfactory watching of live TV and recordings whilst away from home only to find that it was virtually unwatchable over an 8Mb connection. That amount of buffering that took place caused the playback of a recording to stop every few seconds.
