I’ve been really disappointed with the new Flex Fitness app. The download and setup process was unnecessarily complicated, especially considering it’s replacing a simple and reliable fob system. Members already pay a joining fee for their fobs, so it feels unreasonable to be pushed toward an app when the keys still work fine. I also worry about older members who might find this transition difficult—it’s not very user-friendly.

The app itself lacks polish. The starter screen shows a pixelated logo, which immediately gives it a low-quality feel, and small details like not automatically capitalizing names make it seem rushed and unprofessional.

Flex recently acknowledged that during the migration to the new Hapana system, some members experienced issues like incorrect payment dates or charges. While I appreciate their honesty, it doesn’t inspire confidence in the system’s reliability.

The most frustrating part was trying to access a gym after hours. My partner and I tried multiple times at two different doors, but the app wouldn’t unlock them. For a 24/7 membership, that’s unacceptable—and it even recorded those failed attempts as “visits,” which throws off usage stats.

I genuinely love everything else about Flex—the staff, facilities, and atmosphere are great—but this app really lets it down. I’d think twice about recommending Flex until these issues are resolved.

UX is awful, I wanted to set up a direct debit to my bank. Firstly the focus node wouldn’t release so the keyboard was over the text field which meant I couldn’t paste, second issue was that every time the app lost focus (I.e. I left the app to note the bank number) the text field reset. This lazy coding is infected all throughout the app and I’m surprised Flex actually paid for this.

Second issue I have is that I seem to have been lost in the system, I can’t access the gyms after hours (or at all) through the QR scanner - I’ve been a flex member for a long time now, why do I need an app? What’s wrong with my fob?

Third issue, apparently perseverance is not the key, after multiple attempts to set up direct debit to my bank acct it still charges my card.

This app sits up there as one of the worst apps I’ve ever used, there’s no excuse for such sloppy work and how can you expect your members who are less tech savvy to use this?

Tried to access the gym 3 nights in a row now. Have allowed the app access to my camera, changed screen time settings and every other YouTube/Google suggestion. Have footage of opening the app, clicking scan the QR code and it is a black screen. It worked on the 2nd night I attempted to go to the gym. So I don’t know what is up except I’m getting fat sitting at home and paying for a membership I can’t use. Update: still happens sporadically a week later

There’s already enough phones in gyms… people filming themselves sitting on a machine for double the time they normally would because they are mindlessly scrolling…not everyone wants to take their phone to the gym flex? Key tag worked fine.
