TRACK YOUR SURGES
In hypnobirthing we refer to contractions as surges, because a ‘surge’ more accurately describes the sensation you’ll experience when in labour. Freya is the ONLY hypnobirthing-friendly contraction timer on the app store, designed specifically with hypnobirthing mums in mind, using appropriate terminology, but can be used by anyone. PREPARE FOR BIRTH
You can use this birth timer in pregnancy to help you relax and prepare for childbirth. In fact the more you practice your breathing and listen to the guided relaxations and positive affirmations, the more familiar they will become and the more effective they will be at helping you relax when it comes to birth. Positive affirmations have been proven to change the way your mind works and listening regularly will help you feel less anxious and more confident in the lead up to birth. You can practice daily and then reset the surge history whenever you like.

We know the more relaxed you are during birth, the more oxytocin you will produce. Oxytocin helps your uterus to work efficiently, making labour faster and more comfortable.

I down loaded this after listening to the audiobook, I was really nee to give birth as this is my first baby. My waters went at midnight and I gave birth completely naturally with no pain relief, no gas and air no paracetamol at 7.52am the next morning. Blocking out everyone and just listening to the counting for the breathing was absolutely the one thing that helped me keep calm and let my body do what it needed. My husband was my advocate and knew I didn’t want pain relief, so every-time I was asked if I wanted it he would answer for me and I just concentrated on my breathing and resting as much as I could in this speedy labour!!

### ***** "So helpful in labour preparation and actual delivery"
This is my second time using this App - for the birth of my second baby a few days ago and it was immensely helpful all over again. I used it to relax and listen to positive affirmations in the run up to my due date when I was due a planned induction for medical reasons. It helped me manage my stress and anxieties and feel confident in my body and calm. I used it to distract and calm myself so I could get some rest on the busy induction ward once my partner had left for the night. Once my labour had started I used it to time contractions whilst listening to a mixture of the background music and my own music in Spotify (brilliant feature). One improvement would be if you could control your own music volume/skip song via Freya rather than having to switch between Apps which was a little distracting/frustrating mid-contraction. I found it so helpful to have something to focus on and guide my breathing. When I felt myself losing control/panicking, it brought me back in control. Like my last induction, the midwives couldn’t believe how far along I was as I looked “so chilled” and I think the App really helped me cope so well. I declined any pain relief apart from having 2 paracetamol (gas and air doesn’t suit me) - I didn’t wobble from this decision as I felt well supported with the App and my breathing. The midwives were amazed and I felt so proud of myself. Thank you so much PBC!

This has been one of the best purchase I’ve made during pregnancy along with the book. 
I used it as soon as I started to have contractions and it was so helpful to track timings. It was also helpful for my husband to help keep track too for me.

The only thing I regret is not getting it for my first birth.

I practiced with the app in the weeks leading up to labour so I knew how to navigate it and use it.

I listened to the Freya app back to back for 3 hrs on the morning of 40+5. Had something to eat and went into spontaneous labour. 1st pregnancy. Labour lasted less than 7 hrs, delivered as water birth.

I’ve now used Freya for both of my births and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to use their breath to support them through contractions. The breathing counting as your contractions / surges come massively helped me keep focussed and get through them. I was hesitant to pay £4.99 for a one time use app. But I did on a recommendation from a friend and it was so helpful. Using the counting to get through the surges was easier than trying to count myself through them and I loved all the relaxing affirmations and music. In the end I turned up at the hospital my water broke in the waiting room of triage, I was 9cm and baby No2 was born 22 minutes after arriving, worked a little too well! Such a positive experience compared to my first labour

Alongside the ‘How to make your birth better book’ the Freya app kept me calm and in control throughout my pregnancy and labours of both of my children. 
I listened to the positive affirmations every day in the lead up to birth which meant I couldn’t wait to meet my baby and had no concerns about labour, however that may have turned out to be. On the day we used the surge timer to see how long and how often the contractions were coming and the counting audio helped massively keeping me focused on my up breathing while I was pacing around the room during a contraction.
I always recommend the book and app when anyone tells me they are pregnant as I wouldn’t have been able to do it without it.

I used the music to relax to (without the voice tracks) in pregnancy but it was nice to have access to the tracks as well. 

During labour I actually had the sound off but it was good to have an app that visually helped with breathing, it also didn’t display the times which I found helpful as I could access them if I wanted without having to think about numbers. It also told me when labour was established without me having to look at the numbers myself.

I completed the Hypnobirthing online course during my pregnancy and downloaded the app in preparation for Labour! 
It was well worth it, very easy to use whilst having surges (contractions). Reminds you to keep focused on regulating your breathing. 

Tells you when you are in established labour and to call the hospital which takes the guess work out of trying to track yourself.
This definitely helped me through my labour.

I also like how afterwords you can download your contraction records as a keepsake and to look back on afterwords.

I really like the app, it is very helpful and I will definitely use it in labour. One issue is that the guided relaxation scripts are nigh on impossible to find and not at all in an obvious place. I spent 15 minutes getting more and more angry, Googling it and almost deleting the app trying to find them. All I wanted to do was practise with my partner and now I am just angry rather than relaxed. I found them eventually (hint, under record your own tracks!) but by then I was no longer in the mood to try and my partner wasn’t. He was skeptical to begin with and this has damaged our journey. Please can you move them somewhere more obvious? Like maybe with the recordings that are already on the app, or in their own little section?
